Small Clarification for the deleted page

(and the only contributor was "Salandas")

from the Deletion log is not correct, because I moved the deleted page to Corelia:Nostalgia (2011), it inherited its history... And because I moved the page (as seen when you go directly to Nostalgia), the Redirect has been created as a new page under my name :-(. Creator of the site is/was Xazureskies. I just wanted to clarify this, you may delete this immediately, after you read it. — Salandas (Talk) 23:43, January 7, 2012 (UTC)

Redirect vs deletion

Hi there, Senvaikis!

First of all, thanks for help - it is reaaly appreciated. But I have a few questions regarding this matter. If you remember, by someone's mistake two Shaman's songs were placed on Sam the Sham's page. I did like you told me - put in #REDIRECT to corresponding Shaman's page. But why should this lyrics still be on the Sam the Sham's page - they have nothing to do with Sam the Sham and it only messes up things there? IMO, it should be removed from Sam's page, because I see no distinct reason for leaving them.
Regards, iwonhiroshima.
PS: Is there any possibility to change my nickname to start with "i" in lower case? --Iwonhiroshima 15:08, January 11, 2012 (UTC)

  • You are welcome :)
  • You are absolutely right - redirected pages actually aren't a real pages, ergo - they shouln't be included in OS (and any bot will never readd them to OS, 'cause redirects aren't treated as orphanes). DoneGreen Done.
  • Sorry, but I'm not granted making such changes - so you should better readdress your request to our #1-Admin.

Thanks! =) --Iwonhiroshima 19:05, January 11, 2012 (UTC)

What picture then?

I posted a message here because I could not access your talkpage all this time, but the second deletion of the photo surpises me. Is that necessary? What catagorization and size do you recommend?? - keep in mind the size is about reading the text in the photo. You could have changed it to a thumbnail that could be clicked on to expland it. Do I have to upload it again or can you just revert and reduce it to a thumbnail? The photo is important to the credibility of the lyrics. GabrielVelasquez 23:57, January 14, 2012 (UTC)

That's not my personal perversity, Gabriel; all uploaded content should meet requirements, determined by LW documentation, saying that All uploaded files should be added to an appropriate category. Recommended max. image size is 500x500 px. Lwt periodically checks for such files and either categorizes/resizes them, if that's possible, or just deletes, if they are unused/misused. So, your image was deleted quite justly as oversized, sourceless, uncategorized and misused (placed in song page) image.
This song page is another special case: strictly speaking it could be also deleted as breaking almost all possible song page formatting rules. There's even standard page deletion reason comment: "bad page format", and this song was a perfect example of such page. But I decided to save it, considering obviously remarkable manual job done by you. While fixing one big mess, I made one little mine, as you noticed, but finally we've got a normal LW page, meeting main LW page formatting policy requirements :).
Btw, these requirements exist not only for songs, but for artist pages also; according to them, songs on the artist page should be organized by albums, not by language.
Returning to the image: truth to tell, I don't think it's necessary, 'cause nobody's contesting your lyrics version. Nevertheless, if you insist, I may restore/resize/categorize and return it to the song talk page as thumbnail. But if you asked my opinion - I'd better placed there a link to full-size original image on some reliable info source...
Regards, --Senvaikis (talk) 10:32, January 15, 2012 (UTC)
It was in the talkpage, and that's what I was talking about. It serves as a good reference/source. I created the image from snapshots from the video. I would just like it back in the talkpage, for the mainpage the video is enough. As for the size, since the point is to be able to read the lyrics that are shown in the video, the thumbnail link to a larger image would be best. Whatever size for that is acceptable. 21:56, January 18, 2012 (UTC)

Page ranking

Yo Senvaikis, you are an admin so I guess you are the right person to ask... As you know, all pages have stars varying in colors, with the purpose of giving a rank to the page. I have in 2 weeks worked a lot on the L.O.C.-page, and now I think the page deserves a bit more than a green star, but I simply have no idea, what star shall I use? How good must the page be to have a golden star etc. Thanks in advance, Amargaard 13:51, February 12, 2012 (UTC) :)

Hi, Amargaard.
  • According to our Page ranking policy, you may just now promote to bronze most of L.O.C. pages, checked by you.
  • To make page silver, some additional info (if available) should be provided, such as credits, metadata from wp, mb, discogs, iTunes, amazon, allmusic, youtube, goear etc. In addition, you should add yourself as a "Watcher" of the page, if that wasn't done by anyone yet. Artist pages should satisfy one more additional condition to be promoted to Silver - all albums and songs of artist should be at least Silver.
  • The same should be said about Gold: all albums and songs of golden artist should be golden also. Song pages should meet one specific conditional before making them golden - their lyrics should be certfied by at least one user.
  • See our LW:PR documentation for artists, albums and songs for more detailed info.
hth, --Senvaikis (talk) 15:08, February 12, 2012 (UTC)
In that case, I'll promote him with a bronze-star. Thanks a lot :) Amargaard 00:26, February 13, 2012 (UTC)

Multiple artists?

What's the protocol for songs with multiple artists collaborating? I know it doesn't come up a lot, but that's probably why I don't know how to do it. --Lucius Voltaic 05:21, February 14, 2012 (UTC)

The answer is quite simple: you don't know about such protocol for a very simple reason - just it doesn't exist on LW :). There were multiple attempts to discuss this problem, but afaik it's still unsolved. --Senvaikis (talk) 11:40, February 14, 2012 (UTC)
The album I want to add just has two artists, so I'll probably just put Artist 1 & Artist 2:Album Title (year), and the same with the songs, then link it on both their pages. Ugh, I'll have to make a manual redirection page for "Artist 1 & Artist 2"...inelegant, but oh well. --Lucius Voltaic 20:53, February 14, 2012 (UTC)
Oh no, don't hurry to make any changes - I'm afraid our understanding of word "multiple" was slightly different. Speaking about unsolved problem of multiple performers of song, I meant reallly multiple artists number, e.g. remarkably > 2. Your case is absolutelly simple and has accordingly simple solution, named {{Collaboration}}. You may want to take a look at typical sample of such collaboration here. Please, ask, if you still have some questions after that, and hth, --Senvaikis (talk) 21:12, February 14, 2012 (UTC)
Oh, okay. I'll fix what I've done in a bit. --Lucius Voltaic 22:02, February 14, 2012 (UTC)

"Lyricless" albums

I haven't been looking for the lyrics, I'd like to post the whole discography first. But aside from that, shouldn't we be posting the whole discography anyway? I know certain people will be looking for lyrics and can't find them anywhere, but shouldn't they at least know what songs are on the album? Is there a policy against this? Thanks... -ÂØˇÂ⁄⁄ 18:18, February 15, 2012 (UTC)

I think you just post the album with redlinks to the songs, then you (or others) fill them in if you can. --Lucius Voltaic 18:19, February 15, 2012 (UTC)
Ok, let's try once more (in addition to multiple other attempts 1, 2, 3...).
Let's start from the basics. What is LW? Lyrics-dedicated site. Lyrics, not discography. There are other sites (mb, discogs), dedicated to discography, certainly better suited for such task. Let leave them their job, - our main goal is to make LW a #1 lyrics site. You aren't a novice in LW, so you certainly know the main difference between good lyrics-site and a bad one. Novice'd say: criterium is the number of lyrics-search results, linked to that site. And would be very surprised after realising what part of these links are nothing more than just fakes, serving as bait for click-hunters. I'm pretty sure you know some sites of such kind (instalyrics, musicvideoswiz etc), and you know that it's better to ignore any search results, linked to them. Now try to google for "Age Of Faith" "Unconditional Love" lyrics. Do you know what link will be at the top of the list of fake-results returned? Yes, thanks to you LW-link will be on the top of the list, in the "respectable" neighbourhood with musicvideoswiz...
Yes, there's no LW policy, forbidding creation of artist or album pages, containing no lyrics at all. And that's right, - if you are going to fill-in missed lyrics later or if you have some reasonable presumption to think that someone else may do that. But that shouldn't take a massive nature, for the reasons described above. Now maybe you want to know the count of lyricless album pages, created by you from 01/01/2011? It's 164 (and this number would be even higher if not Lwt, all this time trailing along you and adding lyrics where it was possible...). So, do you want LW started to be treated the same way as those click-hunters, constantly returning "sorry...", "unfortunatelly..." etc instead of lyrics? I hope, no.

Featured Songs

Yo Senvaikis, I saw your edit on the L.O.C.-page, where you removed most of the links I added to the "Other Songs"-section. And well, I know they're not by L.O.C., but he is featured on all of them, and I honestly thought that's what the section should be used for - features and remixes and the like, not in any albums. If that's not the case, I think you should really consider making it so :)

By the way, L.O.C. was/is part of the group Selvmord, where he is featured on every track on their so-far only album - should I add that album to his page as well, or just keep it on the Selvmord-page? :) -Amargaard 11:29, February 18, 2012 (UTC)

Hi, Adam.
Take it easy, but you definitelly should take a look at LW documentation for information about artist page formatting and it's structure - to know that OS isn't a container for featured songs. Truth to tell, perfectly formatted and finally finished artist page shouldn't contain OS at all (at least we should strive to minimise it). hth, --Senvaikis (talk) 12:43, February 18, 2012 (UTC)

  3. Tiesiog paprašyti, kad už Tave tą puslapį sukurtų Lwt - aš visada mielai padėsiu :)
--Senvaikis (talk) 16:57, February 18, 2012 (UTC)
Just out of curiosity, what language is this? I can guess it's something Eastern European. It looks a bit like Romanian--could it be Bulgarian? On the other hand, might it be Estonian or Latvian? (Sorry, language nut.) --Lucius Voltaic 18:37, February 18, 2012 (UTC)

P.S. Short translation:

Q:Is there any option to create album tracklists automatically?
A: Yes
  1. Use Wikifyer
  2. Make your own wikifyer, like my Lwt
  3. Just ask me, and Lwt'll make it for you - we are always glad to help
@Lucius: Use Google translator in language detection mode, it'll help you to detect song lyrics language also ;)
Okay, thanks! Looks like I was pretty close with Estonian or Latvian. --Lucius Voltaic 20:06, February 18, 2012 (UTC)
  • O gal dar yra kokių papildomų įrankių, kurie kiek palengvintų darbą? Kad ir kažkokių asmeninių šablonų pasidarymas? P.S. neišsiaiškinau, ar leidžiama čia lietuviškai tarpusavyje bendrauti? Jei ne, pasistengsiu „paangluoti“ :-)) --Rytis 22:26, February 18, 2012 (UTC)
Q:(Are there any additional tools available, making our job easier (some personal templates creating, f.e.)? . Btw, what's the language policy for communicating on LW? If Lithuanian is not acceptable here, I may try switching to English...)
  • Yes, communicating in English is preferrable, for the simple reason - your questions may be interesting for other users also.
  • Regarding tools: unfortunatelly, can't add nothing essential to Wikifyer, mentioned above :). But templates are widely used in LW, and creating your own templates is possible too. Just one suggestion for the starter: don't hasten creating new templates in common template namespace; - use your Sandbox for testings better.
  • And one more very usefull resource, available for any LW user (but interesting & usefull only for technically genned-up one): MwApi
Btw, - Thanks for Siela!
Good luck, --Senvaikis (talk) 10:07, February 19, 2012 (UTC)

Hosted video for a song?

Someone has uploaded a video of a song whose page I'm following from YouTube to the LW site as a file and embedded it on the bottom of the page. I've never seen this before. Shouldn't we just use "youtube embed" and save server space? Also, it's weird how the video is at the bottom. --Lucius Voltaic 20:12, February 27, 2012 (UTC)

You are absolutely right, Lucius, - done DoneGreen. --Senvaikis (talk) 20:54, February 27, 2012 (UTC)
Okay, cool. By the way, is there a preferred way of using "youtube embed"? I've usually seen it with the video part shown; is the recommendation that the video be hidden if it's not an actual music video or something like that? --Lucius Voltaic 22:31, February 27, 2012 (UTC)
No, switching eyt with no video to "audio-only" mode isn't imperative on LW, - that's only my personal preference. --Senvaikis (talk) 06:28, February 28, 2012 (UTC)
The "audio" mode is sensible if the "video" is for example just a picture of the album cover or some self-made slideshow or lyrics-video, typical Windows Movie Maker videos. Or to put it in a nutshell: If I don't forget to check, I usually only leave music videos visible. - Chris 20:11, February 28, 2012 (UTC)

Deletion requests

I was placing some deletion on a few Lryics on the band Kent. I was also placing a reason that read "Multiple lyrics entries". This was because the lyrics and song names missed swedish characters and/or had wrong song name.

When I looked a few houers later, all the deletion marks was removed.

What should I have done different to delete the pages?

Best regards, -Oloff3 2012-02-29T15:46:44

The best option would have been not to mark them for deletion at all, but redirect them to the correct page instead. Most, if not all, of them were created by ÜberBot anyway, so deleting them would be pointless.
When you do mark a page for deletion, please provide a more specific reason than "multiple entries"; best in the above case would have been a link to the correctly titled page. — 6×9 (Talk) 18:26, February 29, 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for cleaning up after me

Rossetyler 05:32, March 6, 2012 (UTC)

Indeed? Just can't recall when any cleanings were required after your trustworthy edits... Anyways, - I'm glad, if that was the case :). Thanks, --Senvaikis (talk) 06:33, March 6, 2012 (UTC)
I just did a flurry of edits on The Magnetic Fields and Stephin Merritt pages. Looking back, I knew I forgot some things but I just didn't know where they were. I know that you found a few ... hopefully, all. Anyway, I just thought I would drop a note of appreciation for your work. Rossetyler 07:29, March 6, 2012 (UTC)

Lower case song titles

Hi there, I created a page for a new artist's lyrics, and the song titles are stylized in lower case, for example "stardust" and "post-party party". But the page got an edit, adding capital letters to the titles ("Stardust", "Post-Party Party"), is there any way the original style can be maintained? I've seen artists that have song titles without capital letters (see, "my life" by Alan Dawa Dolma) and they're shown on the site like that (not as "My Life", for example). Thanks!

--Dmj dabest 11:26, March 11, 2012 (UTC)

I corrected it whereever it's possible. You can use a different link text than the link points to. The code is [[Link Target|link text]]. The actual page names have to first letter uppercased. As the links were all lowercase, it looked like someone just didn't care about capitalising the links, this is why the links and the link texts were changed. - Chris 15:46, March 11, 2012 (UTC)
Ah true, I forgot about the code to use text different than the page it's linked to, thanks! I'll make sure to use it whenever I add new pages.--Dmj dabest 17:03, March 11, 2012 (UTC)
Only one correction to Chris' corrections: yes, stardust is a song with lyrics, and that's precisely why separate page should be created for instrumental version. Fixed, --Senvaikis (talk) 19:09, March 11, 2012 (UTC)
And why? You could just ignore the lyrics... Isn't the {{Instrumental}} template just for the songs, that only have an instrumental version? I mean it's not like the radio edits where the lyrics are present but different from the original song. - Chris 12:02, March 13, 2012 (UTC)
Where did you find a statement that "{{Instrumental}} template (is) just for the songs, that only have an instrumental version"?. As any lyrics-textbox text, representing the lyrics of particular song (version), tli just states that this particular page represents an instrumental song (version). According to lw:pn the same page may be shared by different versions of songs only when they have identical lyrics (or difference is nonessential). There's no any other way to distinguish a version that has different lyrics from the original, than creating a separate page for such version (with added corresponding notation in the title of the page). With the best will in the world you can't state that these song versions "have identical lyrics", ergo - they can't share the same page.
So, your comment to deletion "There is a lyrics version, so adding an "instrumental" page is kind of pointless..." wasn't correct: vice versa - adding "instrumental" notation to the title (creating stardust (instrumental)) would be pointless if version vith lyrics (stardust) didn't exist.

Earlier today I was editing the song "If I Never See Your Face Again" by Maroon 5 featuring Rihanna and I tried to add the information that the song also appears on Rihanna's album "Good Girl Gone Bad" (the Reloaded Edition) but as I found out, there is not an option of adding an album by another artist than the original album artist on which the song is featured. Could you please help me out with this issue? --Stevejack 20:07, March 26, 2012 (UTC)

Problem with the bot Lwt ?

Hello, I noticed that Lwt changed the lyrics of the song Beautés Vulgaires:À Part Ça, Tout Va Bien with the tracklisting of the album with the same name.

I can undo the changes, but I'm afraid the bot will do the same thing again.

Can you fix this ? Thanks.
