Say NO to blank albums

Hi, Oz

Just wanted to ask: are you going to add lyrics for all those albums you've just created? That'd be really great job... But if your job will be limited by creating a bunch of blank pages, containing nothing but red links - you'd better stop it. Please, try to add at least one song with lyrics to an album page you are creating. Tia, --Senvaikis (talk) 17:27, October 20, 2014 (UTC)
I'll do my best, though I don't have bot to help me. :) Step by step, I'm gonna refill all of these albums. I'm doing even more than creating blank pages, so don't worry. ;) Cheers Ozpl (talk) 17:44, October 20, 2014 (UTC)
I'd like to believe... :)
If that may help - here's the list of 87 blank albums (from total 116, created by you only today)...
--Senvaikis (talk) 18:05, October 20, 2014 (UTC)
Just letting you know - I've cleaned finally your list of blank albums (deleted now). --Senvaikis (talk) 17:50, February 1, 2016 (UTC)

Excursion to LW:Help

Here are some Lw page naming and formatting policy rules I want you to remind:
cheers, --Senvaikis (talk) 13:37, October 22, 2014 (UTC)
Have you read above message, Oz? Looking at your frenetic activity on Less Than Jake page, seems you haven't, or did that inattentively. Thus let me be laconic this time: please stop creating redundant discography on lyrics site. I'm writing this just trying to save your and our time - anyway, sooner or later all redundant singles, eps, imgs etc should be deleted. Don't forget that LW is lyrics-, not discography-dedicated site.--Senvaikis (talk) 19:32, October 22, 2014 (UTC)

Icon - Stop Hand

Hey, neibhor, would you please stop finally creating lyricless albums and entire artist pages? I was patiently waiting, when will you finally start the promissed reducing of your red-debts list. But seems you aren't going even to start keeping your promise, - your debts keep growing instead (1, 2).
If polite applications don't work, here's a strict warning then: on any new totally-red-page creation and leaving it "for good" your account will be suspended.
I do hate to write this, but that's your fault - agree, - I was trying to be as patient as possible :(
--Senvaikis (talk) 17:28, December 15, 2014 (UTC)

What is not considered lyrics?

Please see:Help:FS#Lyrics, example of non lyrics: [1]. Of course the next editor may deem your doodly dum dum better represented by dooooodly duuum duuum... :)) --ES (talk) 20:16, May 21, 2015 (UTC)

'Songs by 1' category?

Hi there, did you mean to add this 'Songs by 1' category to your pages? I noticed it in the category lists and it seemed a bit odd to have. - OneTwoThreeFall talk 20:07, June 26, 2015 (UTC)

I have no idea where it came from, that definitely not intended. Even after deletion this page still have this category, so I don't know what I am doing wrong... If you can fix that, feel free to do what necessary, because I won't mind and after all, I can't fix that. TIA --Ozpl (talk) 08:56, June 27, 2015 (UTC)
The categories are hidden away in the editing sidebar by default, instead of being in the actual page text. Maybe that's why you couldn't see it? If you don't like this behaviour (I don't!), you can go to your settings and tick the option 'Disable Categories module' at the bottom. Should be easy to fix then! Hope this helps, OneTwoThreeFall talk 10:31, June 27, 2015 (UTC)
I think it just needed some time to refresh, now it seems ok, thanks for noticing a problem. --Ozpl (talk) 10:33, June 27, 2015 (UTC)
Seems like 6 already fixed it for you! No problem, and thank you for your many edits, OneTwoThreeFall talk 10:38, June 27, 2015 (UTC)

Glassjaw's split album with Motive

Hi there! I'm writing 'cause of this song: Glassjaw:Pravado

Here's whole split on YT. It's a album recorded live while two bands were on stage. Here's a comment made by "Alternate 1995" who's an owner of this tape, so it's legit. Now, situation is tricky, 'cause both bands played simultaneously. Tracklist:
1. The Vermont Connection
2. Star Above My Bed
3. Our Colour Green
4. Pravada
5. I'm Caught/The Dead Tech Apart
6. A Rockwell Portrait

Tracks 1-3, 5 and half of 4 are originally written by Glassjaw, but 4 (also it's misspelled apparently - it's Pravado and should be "Pravada") and half of 5 was written by Motive. I couldn't find any other sources, so it's our only to rely on. When I was creating whole album on LW I had some other sources, but now they're gone, 'cause my memory is faulty. What is the proper way to align this song then? --Ozpl (talk) 19:49, September 17, 2015 (UTC)

Hi Ozpl
Before you moved the page, it had a Kingnee - Musicbrainz mb ref in the footer. What is your comment on that ref, that you left there after the move? And based on that ref I also inserted the title of the compilation album in the Song Header (after moving the page back to it's original place)... Any comments? Merely inserting wrong artist in the edit comment is not sufficient (for any page, unless a valid ref is given). Anybody can upload anything and attribute it to anyone on youtube. As it stands, mb trumps yt. However feel free to make corrections at mb/dg etc. and then we can change the song's attribution, based on a valid ref. HTH. --ES (talk) 20:02, September 17, 2015 (UTC)
Hi again, the fact that this song made its way to compilation, doesn't negate the fact, that it wasn't recorded elsewhere. First of all, there's almost none information about this album in web. There's few who actually bought this tape and one of them upload this video, 'cause it's clearly Daryl's vocal with proper lyrics (though some are slightly different, I don't know what is the cause: vocalist's intention or lyrics publisher's misheard). I know for sure it's legit and probably every fan of GJ could do it the same based on hearing and knowledge about band, though I'm relying on doubtful sources. If I understood correctly - if my edits on MB about this albums will be confirmed, then this song could be assigned to Motive (or Glassjaw, I didn't thought about good solution yet)?
Also, I'm not changing anything on this page till MB update, and also I'll try to be verifying sources a little more consistent and accurate. And in case of such forgotten tapes of little bands MB could be also not accurate, we're all humans after all, and like I said, there's few people who actually owns this. I had very best intentions. --Ozpl (talk) 20:26, September 17, 2015 (UTC)
You stated:First of all, there's almost none information about this album in web. Please see information about this album in web. Cheers --ES (talk) 20:46, September 17, 2015 (UTC)
I was talking about NYU show, which was released as a tape (and it was sold as a merchandise after concert probably). --Ozpl (talk) 20:47, September 17, 2015 (UTC)
The appearnce of Pravado by Glassjaw on the compilation 516 - A Long Island Hardcore Compilation (1996) has already been established, has it not? Did you take time to look at the 516... back cover with the tracklist? Your youtube ref is not acceptable, thus your move of the page was in error. Feel free to check your other moves and refs. happy editing! --ES (talk) 21:00, September 17, 2015 (UTC)

More Glassjaw

Once you have had time to review my edits at Glassjaw (Artist/Album/Song pages), let me know if you disagree with anything before undoing any of my edits.

  1. For bootleg recordings neither a listing nor an album page will be accepted at lw; songs of such recordings shall stay in the OS or under an Unreleased heading, until they appear on official releases, if ever.
  2. If the only official release of a song is on a compilation, we cannot substitute a non official release/Bootleg to accomodate it. --ES (talk) 03:58, September 18, 2015 (UTC)
Hi there,
1. Glassjaw:Motel Of The White Locust - citation from Glassjaw Wikipedia16: "On the UK release of the album, the song "Motel of the White Locust" is actually entitled "Hotel of the White Locust"." - is redirect correct way to deal with this song or we have some special LW policy - I'm asking 'cause I don't really know the answer.
2. Glassjaw:String Of Pearls, String Of Eights - in Song Info should be Glassjaw:Don Fury Sessions (1999) instead of Glassjaw:Don Fury Sessions (1998)
3. MB Don Fury page - on MB disc you left is called "Don Fury Demos" and on your link it's Glassjaw:Don Fury Sessions (1999) - which name is correct now?
4. Glassjaw:Please Don't Let Me Down - in fact that's exact the same song as Glassjaw:Gold, but it was named differently, 'cause it was before the Glassjaw:Coloring Book (2011) release. What we should do in that way?
I don't think that I have any more doubts about whole GJ's work. Although leaving songs, even bootlegs, in OS section is just killing me - I would really want to change its name to "Unreleased" if you don't mind (bot added 5 songs there few hours ago, so have a look at them too). Thanks for fixing all my errors! I've made edits there a really long time ago, when I was a newbie. --Ozpl (talk) 12:52, September 18, 2015 (UTC)
Edit: I didn't saw "Bootleg tracks" section before, so cut the part with changing section name. --Ozpl (talk) 12:53, September 18, 2015 (UTC)

Hi Ozpl

1. Redirect is the answer (one song; one page), no matter how many song titles were used on releases.
2. & 3. Don Fury Session: Kingnee - Musicbrainz Don Fury Sessions (1998) 10 tracks, cassette, promotion see also Kingnee - Musicbrainz Don Fury Demos (1998) 9 tracks, cassette, promotion
4. Use the official song title from the official release Gold. Live At The Best Buy Theater (2011) is a bootleg; the album page and the tracklisting cannot remain at LW.
Thanks for your contibutions! --ES (talk) 19:33, September 18, 2015 (UTC)

Line breaks

Do songs
Really need
A new line
After every tiny pause
Which causes
To be really

Tongue - Patzilla777 (talk - contributions) 18:49, December 5, 2015 (UTC)

I like them that way, it looks nice when I synchronize them with music in MiniLyrics... That's just my thing, make them "karaoke-style". Hihi --Ozpl (talk) 09:49, December 6, 2015 (UTC)
Okay, but make sure the lines aren't too short: in my experience, songs rarely have lines <4 words in length. It can make it difficult for people to read. - Patzilla777 (talk - contributions) 14:47, December 6, 2015 (UTC)
Some might be confused, but I always try to break it down in moments when for example vocalist changes tempo/pitch or simply takes a breath. In "Writing" I broke it with first method as singer changes his voice a lot during one song (which is part of Underoath's style). I'm always trying to do it reasonably. --Ozpl (talk) 14:58, December 6, 2015 (UTC)
Lyrics are supposed to be broken up by where the vocalist takes a breath, but not every breath. Like I said in my edit note for "Writing", the pauses in that song are much too small to warrant a new line. As for pitch/tempo change, what about the cases where the vocalist switches style after every one or two words? Does that warrant a new line each time, or should it be kept on one?

See System Of A Down:Chop Suey!. Your method would cause the chorus to be written as...

I don't think you trust
Self-righteous suicide
When angels deserve to die the vocalist switches tempo drastically. Additionally, many of the songs I listen to have the vocalist go from low to high pitch without breaking the rhythm of the lyrics, so they should all go on one line.

Your method is correct to an extent, but as you said, do it reasonably Grin - Patzilla777 (talk - contributions) 15:24, December 6, 2015 (UTC)

Another note, I see that some of your edits are removing spaces between stanzas, combining verses to choruses etc. This is a much bigger no-no than the line breaks, so I would ask you to please avoid removing these spaces. Also please remember what I said about lines being too short. - Patzilla777 (talk - contributions) 16:52, December 16, 2015 (UTC)
This whole time I was using rule "If instrumental break is longer than 4 seconds, it needs a line break". I don't remember what LW policy said about breaks, but now I've read it carefully and I'll try to adjust to that in future. Thanks for letting me know what's wrong with my edits! --Ozpl (talk) 17:00, December 16, 2015 (UTC)

One song, one page

Hi Oz, I was going to mention our "one song, on page" rule to you, but it seems Senv already did that a year ago, so please remember this. For Death From Above 1979:Romantic Rights, the original version gets main page, while the later released version gets a separate page called Death From Above 1979:Romantic Rights (Album Name) (except in the case of demo vs. studio version, where the latter gets main page).

However in this case I'm not sure the versions are significantly different enough to warrant a new page (in this case a note in {{CreditBox}} can be used instead). - Patzilla777 (talk - contributions) 18:38, December 17, 2015 (UTC)

And how you do so in CreditBox? Should I say, that version from Death From Above 1979:Romantic Rights EP (2004) have slightly different lyrics or something like that? --Ozpl (talk) 19:03, December 17, 2015 (UTC)
You can say that, and you could mention specific lyrics (e.g. "In the demo version of the song, the lyrics "have little fun" are "have some fun" instead. This can be placed in the "trivia=" parameter. - Patzilla777 (talk - contributions) 19:01, December 17, 2015 (UTC)
And it would be mistake making a seperate page? --Ozpl (talk) 19:03, December 17, 2015 (UTC)
A few words aren't worth a new page, however significant difference is subjective, so if you feel it deserves a separate page, you can do so, as you know the versions better than I do. (Also I'd suggest the name Death From Above 1979:Romantic Rights (Demo), as the song and EP have the same name). - Patzilla777 (talk - contributions) 19:10, December 17, 2015 (UTC)

Hi, Oz

just wanted to ask if you've tried already spotplayer-js? (I noticed you've included it in your custom.js).
Does it work for you? (User Fassbrause reported recently, that it doesn't work for him).
Tia, --Senvaikis (talk) 19:40, February 18, 2016 (UTC)
I actually waited for FS reply, because it doesn't work for me either. I've enabled personal js in Preferences and cleared cache, yet nothing happened and I'm using Opera 35.0. --Ozpl (talk) 19:42, February 18, 2016 (UTC)
Edit: Right after I've send it, player's working, so I guess it took few moments after Preferences changed. --Ozpl (talk) 19:44, February 18, 2016 (UTC)
Thx, Oz! Let's hope FB have had the same prob :). Happy editing (& listening), --Senvaikis (talk) 19:50, February 18, 2016 (UTC)
Yes, it was the same problem, indeed *blush* Thanks, --Fassbrause (talk) 20:02, February 18, 2016 (UTC)

Albums that don't belong to Rahim

Hi oz, Just letting you know that I deleted the album pages for Experyment: PSYHO (2002) & DynamoL (2007) that are still listed on Rahim. The songs on those albums are not by Rahim, please see the refs. Every blue song on those albums needs a ref, which will clearly illuminate why I deleted the albums pages. Those are indeed VA albums. cheers --ES (talk) 08:58, March 14, 2016 (UTC)

  • PS: And in the future please please refrain from creating album or songpages that lack any refs (am/mb/dg), your hours of work will go poof and you end up redoing the lot. --ES (talk) 09:01, March 14, 2016 (UTC)

Hi! Thanks for patrolling my past edits, some of them aren't the best and someday I'll probably need to correct most of them...
I had a problem with these albums, because not only he released it under another nickname (Straho or Straho Instrumentals on Experyment and Rahim/Straho Instrumentals on DynamoL) also he produced and made beat to every song, in Poland we use to call it "album producencki" which is basically "album by producer". It's a hip-hop thing, I guess... That's why I had no idea how to get to it correctly.
Solution with nickname, I've looked up from Renard's page, but I guess he needed that way of writing because of huge number of aliases...
With VA and artist problem: I was wondering is it VA's or Rahim's album with a lot of guests and I finally went for second one, as discogs' page list this as his work, but I guess I was wrong. So let me be clear what I have to do here:

The albumsartist of those albums is Various Artists, However I would also indicate that they are a release by Rahim, in a sub header on the album page. I have seen many American hip hop albums with this type of attribution.
The album track list does not belong on any of the artist pages (including Rahim's), so artists of the songs will only get their songs indicated in the Songs on Compilations of their page. On Rahim's page he can be credited as the Producer of the album, and in SoC where applicable.
Please see Kingnee - Musicbrainz Dynamol for the proper attribution. The new {{SongHeader}} that replaced {{Song}} can handle multiple artists and multiple fas, no problem there.
I will look over your new editions when they appear and let you know in edit comments if I make any corrections. tia and happy editing --ES (talk) 13:27, March 15, 2016 (UTC)
