Thanks!

Thank you for adding all the "little" things that you are adding. Not a glamorous job, but I wish more people took the time to do this. I do have one request, however. When you add the album info to the Song templates at the top of song pages, please add the release date as well. Otherwise, the links don't go to the album pages that they should. Thanks, and happy editing!    Kiefer    talk    contribs    admin   23:03, 16 May 2008 (EDT)

  • sheepish* I admit the album info is quick'n'dirty- I'm adding those to my watchlist so that when I have a moment, I can look 'em all up and add the years in one fell swoop. Most of the information I'm adding is from my library, and I don't have the year at my fingertips. NYCScribbler 23:06, 16 May 2008 (EDT)
Sounds good to me. You could click open the Artist page to check, as well. Hopefully someone has put that album on there with the year of release. If not...there's another task! (Endless...absolutely endless...is the to-do list of any editor! :-] ) If you ever need help with anything, feel free to leave a note on my talk page.    Kiefer    talk    contribs    admin   23:26, 16 May 2008 (EDT)

Are You Interested In A Really Big "Little Thing"?

I've been helping EchoSierra sort through the songs in SNLI, inserting the correct Language when I could recognize it and there were a small number of songs by the same artist, or passing the name of the artist to EchoSierra for his bot to do if I recognized the language but there were too many songs by the same artist to do them by hand. Does this sound like something that would interest you? If so, drop a note on either my Talk page or on the SNLI Talk page so we can coordinate our efforts.

There are more than 360,000 songs in SNLI. The second largest Language Category is English with about 230,000 songs.

JimCubb 19:15, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

Thank you very much for your work on songs' languages. Would you be a little more specific when specifying language for songs that are in more than one language? There are 62 sub-categories in Multilingual so the one you need should be there. If the category you need is not there, it is not difficult to creat it.

That is, list the languages, alphabetically with the English spelling. M.O.V.E. has a song, "Gamble Rumble" to which you added a request for Kanji. The song's language is English-Japanese. The Santana song that you cleaned is in English-Spanish.

Thank you again for all your work especially on the special characters in songs in Spanish.

Instrumentals

Instrumentals need to have lyric tags as well, because the various scripts and plugins and whatever rely on them, so please don't remove them. (You needn't restore those you already removed, though – we'll eventually get a bot to do that task.) Thanks! -- 6x9 (Talk) 23:59, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

54-40, album param in song header & footer

The Album param in Song Header & footers should be filled using the first album that contained the track. The album params you filled for 54-40 tracks (the few that I checked) all indicate a compilation album, which is not the original album where the track appeared. [1] should have Fight For Love (1989) as the album. Night Owl 21:44, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

  • Problem I had was that they were listed with 54-40 as the artist. I didn't recognize the name, and since none of the songs gave other artist information, I thought it might be a cover album, or a greatest hits album by an obscure group. If you can suss out the original artist and album info, that'd be great. NYCScribbler 21:48, 28 May 2009 (UTC)
Maybe this is a job best left to someone who knows the band or has time to do the research before filling params? 54-40 is the artist. You can research your effort at musicbrainz, discogs, allmusic etc. There is really no need to guess anything. It would help if the work is done by looking at the artist page first. Accented Characters: help needed

Hi, I came here because of your rapid edit speed and wanted to get to know you by reading your userpage. I saw you're able to correct Spanish lyrics, so would you help reducing Category:Requests For Edits/Accented Characters/Spanish? There are just 31 pages in there atm which is nothing compared to Swedish (92) or even French (136), but I'm about to go through all violet songs and apply {{Accent}} to all songs with broken characters, so the number might increase, and if you'd really do it, you could just have a look into the category from time to time or look at this number: 0. Thank you =) - Chris 02:20, February 21, 2010 (UTC)

Umm, well, I'm sorry to say that Spanish seems to be the most affected language, as you can see from the stats. - Chris 00:34, April 25, 2010 (UTC)

Your worklist

Hi, I ran my scripts through the "Accent" section of your worklist. Hope you don't mind. :D
If you list up the targets for the redirects, I could do that with them, too. Just an offer, your decision :) - Chris 00:29, April 25, 2010 (UTC)

Info templates

Hi, guess I'd better let you know that we've changed the artist/album/song info templates a while ago. Some parameters (like fLetter, artist) were removed, since we have categories to let us know if they are missing, a couple have been added. Here's the list:

  • {{Song Info}} – removed fLetter, artist, song
  • {{Album Info}} – removed fLetter, artist, album; added allmusic and discogs
  • {{Artist Info}} – removed fLetter, artist; added allmusic and discogs

Bronzing songs

Hi NYC
Can you tell me what logic you use (based on verification of which bits) to flag songs as Bronze?

  1. Do you check all the songs belonging to the artist?
  2. If I see two songs with slightly differnt name spelling (SONGNAME vs. Songname) and one is left at green and the other you have Bronzed, am I to take it that the green one is...? and the Bronze one is...?
  3. And as far as the actual lyrics go, what of the lyrics do you check, if any?

Please spare me no details! cheers --ES (talk) 01:05, March 12, 2013 (UTC)

:I'm not sure if a bot is using this account or a human, you had two weeks to respond to my message above. So I am giving you this last warning, before I take further action. Why was Skyclad:Pagan Man ranked Bronze? How many pages have you ranked Bronze like that? Are you willing to go back thru your Contrib list and verify every one of them?

Note 1: Rank is not a parameter like SH.Album or fletter.
Note 2: There is a distinction between slapping a ranking on a page and verifying that the page meets the ranking criteria. That distinction is one you have not grasped. --ES (talk) 23:27, March 26, 2013 (UTC)
    • I didn't recognize your username, and I apologize. I will cease my edits, then. NYCScribbler (talk) 00:12, March 27, 2013 (UTC)
My Apologies NYC.The explanation that is not clear is this:
When duplicate song pages exist, and one song page is ranked Bronze, because artist namesapce is not ranked as one whole entity, What are the future editors to think of it?
Duplicate songs should be redirected, and only the valid song ranked. This issue comes up with row ranking of songs. And please continue your edits, but be careful how you apply ranking.
The same issue comes up with ranking artist pages, when multiple artists of the same name exist. My apologies again. cheers --ES (talk) 01:37, March 27, 2013 (UTC)
Thanks, and I apologize too; I was really prickly last night.
If I run across something that looks like it might be a duplicate with some kind of typo (SONGNAME vs. Songname is a big example; I've been working on The Fall off and on for that), I'll check it. Sometimes I'll slip up. But I like redirecting, so I check for that.
If my name's coming up on ranking Artist pages, someone borrowed my username; I haven't gone above the Album level. My personal goal is for every song to have an album parameter, first by working with existing albums, then by (eventually) creating albums that I know exist, if they don't already. And when I started doing that, someone (I forget who) was prodding me to Bronze them. So... yeah.
Hope this clarifies things. NYCScribbler (talk) 17:45, March 27, 2013 (UTC)
Hi NYC,
I only mentioned artist pages as an example, wasn't picking on you! Since with artist pages songs of multiple artists that use the same name may be hiding under one page, and someone may rank the artist page Bronze without checking that the songs within have to be split between multiple disambiguated artist page. Until then no ranking to artist page may be applied, otherwise anything beyond Green is plain false & misleading.
Now the documentation on ranking is woefully inadequate and doesn't explain one important issue: No harm is done if page params are filled without ranking beyond Green. In fact Bronzing a song in isolation has no volue. The value comes when the entire songs of an artist are name checked (by adding tracklists) duplicates redirected, and OS destryed, so all edits of future editors will be applied to correctly named song pages, whether ranked Green or Bronze. happy editing! --ES (talk) 19:56, March 27, 2013 (UTC)

Artist Delirious?

The pages that you edited today for Delirious are actually for the artist Delirious? Delirious? is the Christian UK band, and Delirious is the German band. I have a bunch of Delirious?' CDs and songs. I just wanted to let you know why I'm redirecting the pages that you were working on today. Thanks. --Arwen4CJ (talk) 03:12, June 8, 2013 (UTC)
