Well bots need wiki too

Line breaks in SongFooter template

Is ok..but line needs adjusting...[1]  ♫Яєdxx Actions Words 02:53, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the hint. I hadn’t taken whitespace that may appear in front of »|« into account. Should be fixed now. --Hfs·· 16:55, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

Manual classification?

Hi, just wanted to ask you - was your edition manual indeed? Usually such behavior (doubling attributes, in this case - even with the same value) is typical for bad-written bots... Hope you agree if I revert this edition, --Senvaikis (talk) 20:41, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

One more note: bot is misbehaving not only doubling language; I don't know what technique for language detection is used, but sometimes it faults too. Take for example Brainstorm:Lidmasinas: Brainstorm is a Latvian group; so I, as their neghbor Lithuanian, use to know a little this language; but for being sure I've checked the language using Google translation Api - it gave "Latvian" with a confidence ~80%. How then your bot decided it should be "Dutch"? --Senvaikis (talk) 22:05, 14 December 2008 (UTC) [Copied here from User_talk:Hs --Hfs·· 22:18, 14 December 2008 (UTC)]

Hi, thanks for the notice. Let me explain: From time to time I look through the log of the bot for pages the bot could not classify (they are a lot, actually). Those pages are not touched in normal operation. But it helps the bot to “learn” if I classify the languages by hand and re-feed them to the database. In those cases the summary reads Manual classification. It means that I guessed the language as human from the first 100 or so characters of the lyrics but let the bot edit the page.
The double language tag is certainly an error in the bot script. Thanks for catching it! It happens if the language was set between fetching the page from Category:SNLI and writing a new value. This should only happen seldom, but I'll look into it and correct it.
The edit of Brainstorm:Lidmasinas means that I don't know Latvian actually and thought it looked like Dutch :-) That's my mistake, but no problem in the bot script.
I hope that explains it a bit. Of course it's ok if you revert the wrong edits. --Hfs·· 22:18, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for quick reaction, HS :). Btw, I highly recomend you to use Google translation Api for language detection - it's still far from being perfect, but in most cases it can be very usefull. Happy editing & programming, --Senvaikis (talk) 22:31, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

Language Latin

Check out Category:Language/Latin cheeers + tia ∃cho⚡ierr∀ () 20:37, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

:-( That's bad! The bot must have guessed Instrumental to be Latin at some point and then reinforced this by positive feedback. I hope I have fixed it now. I'll go through the mess and clean it up. Thanks for notifying me. --Hfs·· 21:20, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
You are welcome, there's a few ;) cheers ∃cho⚡ierr∀ () 21:28, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

I’m not happy about it, but I can’t reproduce this anymore. If I let this page be reclassified it is classified as English now. Hope it was a singular glitch. --Hfs·· 10:56, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
Another one: [2]. Have to watch it. --Hfs·· 13:57, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
Yes, I notice you stopped the bot again apparently due to the same misclassification :/ It might be useful to scan Language/Japanese category later to reclassify the English ones (hopefully not many). cheers ∃cho⚡ierr∀ ( ) 21:27, 11 March 2009 (UTC)
Another one… Maybe the bot is fooled by UPPERCASE LYRICS? (The other two examples above had some uppercase stuff in there as well.) — 6×9 (Talk) 19:11, March 29, 2010 (UTC)

If u was a human bean....

I would ask that when you added language in song footer on pages with accents that look ok (i.e. have been corrected) you change any Violet stars in {{Song}} [3], to Green...but seeing as you aren't I don't know if this can be done.  ♫Яєdxx Actions Words 12:10, 13 March 2009 (UTC)

Hej, I don’t think it’s possible to solve the encoding and accents problems in a program. It would be possible – while expensive in terms of traffic – to scan the history of a Violet song for . But how do I decide if the lyrics are correct now? There are some German pages that have ‘á’ instead of ‘ß’ [4]. Then there are lots of pages which simply omit all accented characters, like [5] vs [6]. I think only a speaker of the language can decide if the accented characters are correct. --Hfs·· 15:42, 14 March 2009 (UTC)
Sorry I should've explained myself better. User:Hebertvs came along and corrected all the (see here). Then Man Machine came along and added language. All I was saying was if Man Machine was a human, I would have asked that when he entered language he change the colour of the star in song template from Violet to Green. As is the usual reason for there having been a Violet star added to the page and is obviously not a valid accent. But I understand that this can't be done. It's a human thing ;) Nice to know we still have our uses, eh? Rfl.  ♫Яєdxx Actions Words 01:07, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

Afrikaans vs. Dutch

Hallo, I see you've added Dutch as the language to this song: I would like to know what LyricWiki's policy is about this, because as far as I know Afrikaans is an internationally recognized language and I was just wondering if LyricWiki includes it as Dutch or if you made a mistake. --Adriaan 13:36, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

Btw the text is in Afrikaans.--Adriaan 13:40, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi. Thanks for the pointer! Of course Afrikaans is treated as its own language on LyricWiki. See Category:Language/Afrikaans. Man-Machine is a software program (bot) that “guesses” languages of lyrics with a statistical method. Unfortunately I did not include Afrikaans in the list of possible languages, probably because when I started with Man-Machine in November 2008 there were not enough Afrikaans song pages to use as training material. Above page was classified as Dutch because of the similarities. I’ll look into adding Afrikaans to Man-Machine. --Hfs·· 20:50, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

the return of the M&M

good to see you're back :) ∃cho⚡ierr∀ ( ) 01:08, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

Could you tell me if the above figure is accurate for SNLI please? Thanks!  Яєdxx Actions Words 09:38, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

Sorry I don't get the question :-) At the top of the page it says The following 200 pages are in this category, out of 2,XXX total. I don’t have different numbers than that? --Hfs·· 14:52, 18 July 2009 (UTC)
I can't recall why I asked this but no worries. :-)  Яєdxx Actions Words 00:04, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

songs in multiple languages

How should we categorize a song that includes multiple languages in it? For example, most of the songs by Rebel Diaz are mostly in English, but with Spanish choruses or verses (and sometimes more Spanish than English). I've tried including both English and Spanish tags, but that doesn't work. Thanks. --Susanbactivist 21:15, December 12, 2009 (UTC)

Take a look at Help; here's a quote from it: If the singer switches between two different languages while performing a song, both languages should be entered in alphabetical order separated by a hyphen.
So, in your case it should be "English-Spanish". hth, --Senvaikis (talk) 10:03, December 13, 2009 (UTC)
