Need German help please!

My German is really rough and working this out is beyond me ... please help!

In Extremo:Herzensglut (2007) isn't linked to the artist page and Google doesn't turn up much. The album doesn't show in any discography that I can see for In Extremo. I found this but my German isn't anywhere near good enough to figure out what they're talking about. It seems that at least one person thinks it's a fake ("dann glaub ich, dass das ein Fake ist"), but I can't work out what the person after that says. If it is a fake, do they know who it really is? Please Eeepy 08:11, March 11, 2011 (UTC)

Nothing conclusive there, I'm afraid; just speculation and theorising, though the general consensus is that it's probably fake. One line of argument is that Subway to Sally had just released a song called Herzensglut, so IE wouldn't release an album with the same title… BTW, have you noticed the link in the very first post? ;-)
I was about to suggest asking hfs, who created the album page, but (s)he probably just copied the tracklist from the artist page. (The IP who created the song pages also added the tracklist.) None of the lyrics appear to be new either; those I checcked on Google are traditional songs. I'd say delete the whole bunch… or is one of the songs real? — 6×9 (Talk) 08:41, March 11, 2011 (UTC)
Not listed. - Chris 15:02, March 11, 2011 (UTC)
Forum quote from a band member:
"Hallo und Guten Morgen allerseits! Wir schreiben zwar gerade neue Songs aber ein "Herzensglut" wird definitiv nicht dabei sein. Eine neue CD werden wir auch erst 2008 veröffentlichen. Ich hoffe ich konnte das Rätsel halbwegs lösen... Viele Grüße von Lutter"
"Hi and good morning everyone! Thus we're currently writing new songs, there is definitely no one amongst them that'll be called "Herzensglut". A new CD won't be released before 2008, too. I hope I could solve the confusion... Greetings from Lutter"
Let's delete this album, it's the result of a mistake. - Chris 15:09, March 11, 2011 (UTC)
Thank you, both of you, for the help. I can't find any of the songs on that album linked to any other page by In Extremo, so I think they're all garbage. I'd be more inclined to just redirect the album and songs to Unknown Artist and then they won't reappear if User:Lwt decides to readd them or some bright spark decides they've found a "new" song. What do you think?
What really annoys me about this album is that usually I can find something like this credited to some other band, but I can't even figure out where the track list comes from.
Yes, I did notice the link in the first post and I clicked on it to see if it redirected (it did) - when lyricwiki was still a .org Smile
I'm starting to suspect that 6×9 is a cyborg who can speak/read any language. Wink Eeepy 23:59, March 11, 2011 (UTC)
I can read any language that's in a Latin-based alphabet… understanding is a different matter ;-) I'm only fluent in German and English, I'm afraid. — 6×9 (Talk) 08:49, March 13, 2011 (UTC)
Ditto. - Chris 15:22, March 13, 2011 (UTC)
@Eeepy: considering theoretical Lwt's inability to add any album or song, having no reference to mb, amz, iT or dog, I'm just curious - can you point me at least one such garbagging example? --Senvaikis (talk) 15:51, March 12, 2011 (UTC)
@Sen: I'm not saying Lwt makes up crap: my understanding was that Lwt trawls for lyrics on other sites and adds them. Therefore, the problem (as I understand it) is not Lwt, it's people in Internetland who make up junk. That was my understanding of why we redirect pages rather than delete them. If that's not how it works, then just ignore me. Eeepy 00:16, March 14, 2011 (UTC)

There you go, I had no idea what I was talking about Tongue. ÜberBot is the dude I meant! Smile Thanks for that Chris, really good collection of info.
So after all that, what does that mean for the fake album for In Extremo that started this? Delete or redirect? I can't delete so it's up to you guys. Eeepy 08:03, March 15, 2011 (UTC)

I'd delete it. What you think, Senv, 6? - Chris 23:12, March 15, 2011 (UTC)
Deletion. If ÜmlautBöt re-adds them later, we can still redirect/move to Unknown Artist. — 6×9 (Talk) 05:22, March 16, 2011 (UTC)

Green check Done by Chris 18:57, March 16, 2011 (UTC)

Hi Chris!

What's that? To me it looks like spam!

MfG, --Ignor-the-ant 14:02, April 4, 2011 (UTC)

Hi, no, this is no spam, it's a song (Googled the last line). However, I can't figure out its name, so I'll delete it with the reason "bad pagename". - Chris 16:00, April 4, 2011 (UTC)

Cant wait

i just read your blog and i'm very curious to know what your cookin up? Prenticejl 03:33, April 10, 2011 (UTC)

Hey Prenticejl,
First of all, it is awesome someone actually reads my blogposts to see what the admins and especially I are/am working on here at LyricWiki. Hihi
The project was released the day before yesterday: it's my (first) extension Special:SOTD, a monster-PHP page to add, edit and manage nominations for our Song of the Day. I've been working on it for two months now and I'm so excited it actually works! 14 nominations were submitted so far, and I hope for many more. So if you have a favourite song that hasn't been SOTD yet, feel free to nominate it, I'm happy about every new nomination! Thanks for your interest, you motivate me to blog a bit more and finally do all my other projects I mentioned in the "Work delays" post. Yeah - Chris 03:50, April 10, 2011 (UTC)

New SOTD page

Love the new SOTD! It's a lot easier than the old one - great work! Grin Eeepy 09:02, April 11, 2011 (UTC)

Yay, thanks a lot Yeah. It's pretty successful, too! In a few days more nominations than I need for April. Hopefully it remains so attractive! Smile - Chris 10:28, April 11, 2011 (UTC)
Yes, it's much more wonderful. Thank you. Lyricserver 17:08, April 16, 2011 (UTC)
Thanks! Proud - Chris 22:53, April 16, 2011 (UTC)

Awesome, thanks!

I honestly didn't expect The Unraveling to be Album of the Week, but you made it happen! Thanks, that made my day when I saw that! MilesPrower32 03:02, April 19, 2011 (UTC)

Lyricserver's input on star colors/rankings

Hi. I know you're busy but I just wanted to give you some of my input as to the page rankings as they are now. My favorite thing to do here on LyricWiki is to go to a random song on my random mp3 list and gather the lyrics here on LW and save them to my compy for future reference.

This in mind, I also like to correct lyrics (certify) and add the additional info found via main Wikipedia on the song page there and transfer the info to the song page here (add credits section, add youtube video, etc...). It's a benefit for me because now I would have the lyrics to my song & it's a benefit for LW because I add more info and increase the song's rankings.

I, however, do not like to "watch". I have other things to do besides watch & babysit song pages. I don't mind certifying them, that's for sure. I have to do that anyway, but to "watch/follow" a song page, well that's different. And there's my dilemma.

You see, I may certify a song, add the ((WP-Song)) link to it, add the ((Youtube embed)) link, put the ((cover/cover2)) & all the other song badges, add the Credits section and complete the ((Star Box)) list so it's all done, the most ranking the song can have is a StarIconBronze Bronze. All it would need is a "watcher" to make it a StarIconGold Gold. Bronze to Gold for just one criteria is a bit much, in my opinion, but that's what I've been doing so far. It's kind of disappointing to see all that hard work amount to a little reward.

I know you and the other admins have been talking about the page rankings. I personally like the inclusion of the unverified vs. certified ranking, but I don't know much about the implementation of it. And I just wanted you (all admins) about how I feel about the "watching" situation. I also know I'm just one person, but sometimes that's just enough. :)

Once again, thank you Chris for all the things you've accomplished as well as Senvaikis, 6x9 & all the other admins. All your hard work on this site shows.
/soapbox :)
Lyricserver 07:12, April 23, 2011 (UTC)

Hey Lyricserver,
thanks for your input. I already posted the message on the Administrators Portal. I know that watching-problem, too. I do not like to watch pages, either, so they are stuck at Bronze. I don't know, I'd usually say we could introduce some parameter or template to mark these songs that are just missing a watcher for the upgrade to gold. But I don't think that'll do much about the problem, because those who are watching now are already those who look into "Category:Bronze ...", and those who did not watch by now won't do it then. I also think a user cannot really "watch" more than 200 pages, they are changed too often for that. For our size, it'd need hundreds of watching users...
I wrote this post over a very long time, and I personally have a really weird idea: A special page where you can add songs to some kind of "passive watchlist". You add the pages there and every time you visit that special page again you are identified by your username and the changed pages are shown and you can visit them. You have to actively visit that page and won't be notified, so your real watchlist isn't cluttered up like it was with the usual watch-feature. Might as well be a useful extension for other projects. - Chris 16:22, April 23, 2011 (UTC)

Japanese songs

A few of your edits in the past mistakenly marked some fLetter=Symbol songs as fLetter=Japanese, such as Wonderwall:(One More) Song For You. See Category:Songs Japanese. There are also some other songs that don't belong in that category, as well (but do belong in Category:Language/Japanese). --Geopgeop 00:28, April 24, 2011 (UTC)

Oh thanks a lot, I'll check the categories. Okay, just as explanation: the edit was performed by a combination of two independent scripts. One was TouchFix, the other was a script to fix the fLetter=Symbol problem for non-latin-based scripts. Look here to see what I mean. The latter mentioned script has different modes of fixes: A) replace "Symbol" with the first letter, B) replace "Symbol" with a predefined word. I usually enable that script when I fix the category and disable it again afterwards. Seems as if it remained enabled after one session. Thanks again, I'll look after it. All the fLetter categories need a check anyway. - Chris 00:46, April 24, 2011 (UTC)
By the way, I just whipped up a TOC template using gojūon order for Category:Songs Japanese (and maybe Category:Language/Japanese), sitting ready at User:Geopgeop/Template:CatHiragana. This would probably help in navigating through those categories better. Would making this into a real template and having it put in those categories be ok? Or is there still some editing needed, like including katakana as well? Maybe a better template name, like Template:CatKana? Eventually, in actual song pages, for example, I'd like to see something like or hiraganaSong=ひかり in the SongFooter for the entry 宇多田ヒカル (Hikaru Utada):光 (Hikari). --Geopgeop 11:34, April 24, 2011 (UTC)
I added the template, it was only missing the category which I included. See, I don't know much about Japanese, so I cannot judge at all which enhancements are necessary to make the category usable. If you want to make a template for Katakana, name it CatKatakana, so everyone knows what it is for. We could then make a third, combined template to show both. But it is absolutely sensible to split both scripts into two different templates to keep them independent. About hiraganaSong - I don't know if it is a good idea to introduce even more parameters in SongFooter. It already is a really mighty and complex code (of course, as we are pressing all languages of the whole world into one template. IMO it slowly becomes evident that this was a bad idea, it should be split up into the external links core and do the rest by subtemplates like ArtistHeader does...)
So first I don't know whether adding even more parameters to fill in is good for the template and the users that have to work with it. Secondly, does really everybody know how to break down 光 into ひかり? I see that this is just splitting the letter/word/sign/graph(?) into the spoken syllables an then use the letters for the syllables, and it seems basic, but does everybody know how to? Is it maybe even ascertainable by romanizedSong? - Chris 14:53, April 24, 2011 (UTC)

The problem with using romanizedSong is that there is more than one way to romanize a reading. 東京 has only one hiragana reading, とうきょう, but can be romanized as Tokyo (normal), but also as Tohkyoh, Toukyou, Tōkyō (with the macrons), Tookyoo, etc. We can remove the ambiguity by sorting by hiragana instead of romanization for Japanese songs.

I think this discussion should be brought up with the LyricWiki:Japan group. --Geopgeop 02:52, April 25, 2011 (UTC)

Beginner's Guide

As reply to User blog:L78lancer/Learning And Understanding Wikia Formatting

That's actually a pretty cool idea. Not sure where I'd start, but I'm game.

L78lancer 22:02, April 24, 2011 (UTC)

I'd suggest we first start to collect links to all help pages except for the template documentations, because the latter ones are always visible on the template pages, whereas all other helppages are cluttered between several namespaces and in different link-collections. I'm sure we won't include parts of them all later, but I'm thinking about a new help system, so I'll reuse that collection later. I started here in my storage. - Chris 01:54, April 25, 2011 (UTC)

SOTD April 25, 2011

Hi Chris! I'm just here to tell you that your nomination of The Chemical Brothers:Hey Boy Hey Girl has won Song of the Day for April 25, 2011!
Thanks for nominating a song and for contributing to LyricWiki!

Our buddy the Janitor

I remembered that there is a "-v" flag that turns Janitor to verbose mode... it quickly became apparent that he was getting "hookaborted" on Control Machete due to some strange encoding. Just removed the weird encoding for now. If/when he gets jammed up again, there are some modifications I can make which can make him handle hookaborts better (ie: not get frozen by them).

He's running right now, and seems to be tearing through numerous songs (because someone went through and cleared out a bunch of hard songs from Special:LonelyPages :D ... thanks!).

So, fortunately, he's back in action. Haven't tested anything for fixing ArtistInfo or following redirects, but at least he's getting something done.

Thanks for the help,
-Sean Colombo 04:03, May 1, 2011 (UTC)

Hi Chris

I've seen that on many pages youtube was changed to youtube embed. So what's the difference between youtube and youtube embed ?

--Ignor-the-ant 00:34, May 10, 2011 (UTC)

youtube is just a shortcut (aka redirect) to youtube embed, the latter is the "real" template. — 6×9 (Talk) 05:19, May 10, 2011 (UTC)

Thanx! --Ignor-the-ant 14:31, May 10, 2011 (UTC)

Thanks 6! In addition to that it might be interesting that the youtube-parameter for the SongFooter is obsolete if youtube embed is on the page, it sets the parameter automatically. We should mark the parameter deprecated for the new version of SongFooter (if the new one is ever introduced, maybe as partial template (see some section above)). - Chris 21:47, May 10, 2011 (UTC)
@Chris: are you sure we should mark the (sf)parameter deprecated? I'm not. There are some situations, when current eu2b version looks ridiculous or even ugly.
Say, I want to let you hear and enjoy a marvelous Powder of Parov Stelar. But eu2b window doesn't fit into small lyrics box; moreover, it doesn't contain any real video, - just a static album cover image. So my intention to reduce this eu2b window to "only-audio-control" was natural. But such video-part hiding, as you understand, is far from being the best solution: it's zoom-dependant and, what's even worse - its volume control becomes unavailable then.
Resume: while eu2be doesn't have a real, controllable "audio-mode", sf.u2b deprecating would be precipitate, imo.
--Senvaikis (talk) 13:08, May 12, 2011 (UTC)
I see no serious reason to include the code and confuse users with 2 YouTube parameters, as the yt-link in SF is filled in automatically by youtube. The page you linked to is a good example, too. Currently, the param is empty, so no link is displayed. As soon as it gets removed from the page, youtube template forwards its ID to the SF. But actually the link is completely obsolete when the player is present, because it includes the same functionality as the link (in case you did not find that out already: right click on the player -> "Watch on YouTube"; for videos you can also simply double-click on the "movie area"). - Chris 16:32, May 12, 2011 (UTC)
Um, right-click is all fine for Senv and you and me, but for the vast majority of users the right-click menu is disabled… — 6×9 (Talk) 18:14, May 12, 2011 (UTC)
Is it? I thought the script applies to the default c-menu, not for the Flash rendered one. Mind that it only looks like a usual context menu but in fact is rooted in the embedded object. It works for me in IE, Opera, Safari, Chrome and of course for my loved Firefox Grin (they also have right-click enabled as soon as I'm logged in). In IE 9, the margin is too big and the SOTD template is transparent. But we need to rework the whole CSS anyway, because besides the fact that we have 5 official css pages of which only two are in use, our CSS contains lots of deprecated and duplicated code for old skins. We should also start to use classes like .badge for the width, the colours, the border, the margin Wink, or other templates and put the CSS into the CSS pages. And while we're editing the templates, we could start to give unique HTML elements IDs (like a div surrounding the SongFooter).
I already did that for the main page, each section has its own ID, so you could add code to your stylesheet to hide certain areas like "view mainpage in" etc. And finally, we have to use the noprint class more often to make the printing results prettier. Still on my todo list. - Chris 18:47, May 12, 2011 (UTC)

(edit conflict: as always, - two your posts while I was typing my own... :)) Ok, Chris, that's not the first time I suspect you don't 'listen' what I'm speaking about ;). Once more: deprecating makes eu2b player the one and only possible way of linking to u2b. It wouldn't be bad if player had a managable "audio-mode" - minimized audio-track player control. While such mode is unavailable, we have only two choices for such cases as mentioned above: a) embed full-sized video, uglifying small lyrics boxes; or b) use pseudo-audio mode without volume control. I prefer the latter, though it's not perfect too, imo. That's why I expected to hear your opinion about that, not about redundancy of yt parameters or about existence of eu2b context menu yes, I knew about it ;). --Senvaikis (talk) 19:19, May 12, 2011 (UTC)

I'm sorry Senv! I referred to this: Quote by Senvaikis: "are you sure we should mark the (sf)parameter deprecated? I'm not. There are some situations, when current eu2b version looks ridiculous or even ugly."
But I think I now got what you meant: if we remove it, there's no way to make SF display the link without having one of both modes on the page, although there are situations when both players do not fit.
About the small lyrics-box: maybe you want to read this or look here for the approach that I've been coming up with, obviously only half a week before 6 had the same idea. =)
About the player versions: I really don't mind seeing only one cover image while I'm listening to the song. And if it bothered my I could not use the link either, hence from my POV there's no problem with making also non-music videos visible. About the audio only mode: I rarely use the volume setting at YouTube, so I never missed it; usually, when you're listening to music, you do not have other music enabled, so you can use your system volume.
Btw, I did not know that the audio-mode is just a resized video. And although it's zoom dependant, I'd like to say that it was a brilliant idea. I'll test some things that come across my mind to fix the zoom dependance. Maybe I am lucky =) - Chris 23:38, May 12, 2011 (UTC)
If I understand Chris correctly, it's not the link that will go away, just the parameter – sf link would be created automatically via variable try saying that out loud :-).
About hiding/resizing: couldn't we just use css :hover to show the full-size video, even in audio-only mode, when the user points his mouse at it? — 6×9 (Talk) 05:07, May 13, 2011 (UTC)
About Barbra: yes, I've seen that discussion and must say that now she looks much better :). Btw, let me ask one more not wholly off-topic question: would it be possible to make a template for such "embedded goear" player, but without using user.js? I tried to make one, but didn't succeed :).--Senvaikis (talk) 11:58, May 13, 2011 (UTC)
I also tried to, and I don't think That we can make a template unless we enable object and embed tags (which is not a very good idea), make an extension like for youtube (which is at least difficult) or insert your code into MediaWiki:Wikia.js if that is possible. But to be honest, I wonder: do you really think it's such a good idea to include it? The external goear player is ugly as hell and doesn't fit very well to the clear layout LW has. Blush We might use local.swf and add the "Powered by" linked picture on our own after asking GoEar to do so. But I still think the player is way too space consuming for an audio-only player... - Chris 09:08, May 17, 2011 (UTC)
That's exactly what I'd like to have as an option actually - just a little custom "play/stop" controls, taking practically no space on the page, - for both goear & u2b, if that would be possible. ...I knew it was and will remain some kind of fix-idea :). --Senvaikis (talk) 10:17, May 17, 2011 (UTC)

Album Art

Could someone please explain to DiamondStarHalo, how to ad Album Arts? I'm not good in explaining. ;-)

--Ignor-the-ant 04:24, May 14, 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the notice, I tried to explain it. - Chris 05:43, May 14, 2011 (UTC)

Hi, me again!

I'm just checking the Star:Violet Category, changing the songs, where the accents were fixed, to Star:Bronze. (Scheißarbeit! ;-) ) Then I wanted to add a Accent flag to the ones, where it wasn't done. But all I get is the following information:

Der Text, die du speichern willst, wurde vom Spamschutzfilter blockiert.
Das liegt wahrscheinlich an einem Link auf eine externe Seite.
Der folgende Text wurde vom Spamfilter gefunden:

What can I do? --Ignor-the-ant 00:49, May 15, 2011 (UTC)

I know that problem, the question-mark character is blocked by the spamfilter. We'll have to wait for 6 to fix that. I tried to add it to the whitelist some weeks (months?) ago but it obviously didn't work.
About the mark them fixed thingy: I've had a script for that. I don't know if it'd still work. It's actually a pity that I apparently hardly have any time to do what I want although atm I have as much spare time as I'll never have again until I'm retiree.
I want to make myself a homepage and offer my GreaseMonkey scripts for LyricWiki as download. But I don't have the time to make me a homepage, and after that I'd still have to re-check and tidy up all my GM scripts for LyricWiki (that is 40 or so) to make them work with Wikia and the current skin Sigh. Some of them are also very hard to use, others could be shortened a lot if I included my "easy access function" library script and/or made some new function libraries for commonly used functions such as "FirstLetterUppercase" or "PageExists". But I see I really have to get at it, OR I have to implement my own cyborg tool! Maybe Senv can help me now that I'm also programming in .NET. Would be definitely cool!
But B2T, I'd ask 6 to fix that, he's far more experience in spam filter issue handling than I am. So all we have to do is wait, he usually even reads my page before I do. Wink - Chris 04:12, May 15, 2011 (UTC)
Sorry, I can't fix that. The whitelist is only for URLs, if e.g. a song has the word "viagra" in the title and the spamfilter wouldn't allow you to save it because external links containing that word (generated by SongFooter) are blocked.
What we could do is add a colour variable to star and have SongFooter display the accent template automatically for violet songs (has to be SF because we need the language). Of course it wouldn't be displayed above the lyrics anymore, but (like NoLang) right above the "External links" section… — 6×9 (Talk) 06:35, May 15, 2011 (UTC)
I've got an alternative, more radical solution of this (hooked accents) problem. Instead of trying to overcome spam filter to mark page with Accent, Lwt may just... reupload accentless lyrics, resolving such a way both problems - making page editable and fixing its lyrics simultaneously. Hope you've noticed that RFEAC.count was reduced recently from over 15000 to current value 26. Lwt's ready to repeat this job with any list of accented songs you give me. --Senvaikis (talk) 12:55, May 17, 2011 (UTC)

Hey, Chris. For some reason, I keep getting an "internal error" message on the SOTD nomination page when I try to nominate a song. It reads: "Set $wgShowExceptionDetails = true; at the bottom of LocalSettings.php to show detailed debugging information." I don't know who needs to deal with it, but I just wanted to let you know. --Cubs Fan2007 (Talk to me) 00:35, May 21, 2011 (UTC)

Yes, I know that message, it's the default message. I don't know what's wrong with the page, I'll check that. But it's not a big deal, the next 3 days are all PDNoms already. (Oh, and thank you for letting me know, I did not see it so far as all other managing functions work as usual.) - Chris 17:33, May 21, 2011 (UTC)
Update: I've commited my new version to Sean, and he pushed it forward to Wikia's branch that'll go live on Wednesday. We're checking about the internal error. I don't know what it could be. At my local wiki, the extension worked well. I guess it's temporary. - Chris 20:01, May 21, 2011 (UTC)
I just nominated a song as a test and it worked fine for me. Hopefully it was just temporary. Does it work for you now, Cubs Fan2007?
-Sean Colombo 22:28, May 21, 2011 (UTC)
Cubs, which song were you trying to nominate? I've got a feeling that the error is related to the apostroph character. I can't nominate Big The Boss:Let's Proof It but Kate Voegele:Heart In Chains is okay. Heading to my test wiki to create some pages with special chars...

Add 2: Will likely be fixed with the release on Wednesday. - Chris 01:08, May 23, 2011 (UTC)
I've been trying to nominate "Let's Go Get Stoned" by The Amboy Dukes for April 20th of next year. Like Black Sabbath's "Sweet Leaf", I like the song as just a song, despite its subject matter. And I think you're onto something; I just tested "Faithfully" by Journey, and it went through with no problem. --Cubs Fan2007 (Talk to me) 05:47, May 23, 2011 (UTC)
Yes, the problem only became visible since I added some code to it with the last update. That's why apostrophed nominations were possible beforehand (and will be after next Wed. again). - Chris 17:36, May 23, 2011 (UTC)

Please cancel my profile and terminate my "membership" with Lyrics.wikia. Senvaikis is a pain in my balls and I don't need his crap. While I may make errors, he can keep his arrogance - screw him. I will go elsewhere where I can contribute.

Thank you for your help and frindliness in the hsort time I have been a user.

--L78lancer 14:21, May 31, 2011 (UTC)

I can understand that you're frustrated if you're trying to contribute to LW and just earn remarks 'bout what you did wrong so far. And I can understand your anger as I know Senv's messages aren't always written in the most polite words you could find. However I know that this is not meant to be arrogant, I believe it's just very difficult to draw the line if you're not talking or writing English all the day. But I can understand if you don't want to participate any longer, although I think it's sad. But okay.
You can't really cancel a membership. But you can log out and let the account rest. Furthermore, you could head over to any other wiki inside the Wikia network. Only very few wikis have so many code conventions like LyricWiki, because only few are that huge. Your account is valid for the whole Wikia Network, so you may give it a try. Smile
Good bye and have fun. - Chris 18:29, May 31, 2011 (UTC)
P.S.: If it's for this: Quote by Senvaikis: "Once more: please, use Album Art instead of File." then I don't see what's wrong with it, sorry. I can't think of any more objective manner to remind you to use code instead of .

Daniel Powter:Bad Day

Hi Chris, I replied (rather late :) ) here; I don't know if it sends a notification, since it's in the archive, so I'm leaving a note here. Cheers, Mikemorr 03:40, June 5, 2011 (UTC)

Hello Mike,
As it is characteristic of archives not to be changed in any manner, I cut out the post again and I'll put it here:
The following statements are in reference to this archived discussion:
Thanks for your response; I've been meaning to reply sooner. All those points seem good to me, except:
  • "your camera"; when I listen to it I'm sure I hear "the camera". And he's visibly making the "th" sound at 1:20 here. And "the camera do[es]n't lie" is a common expression; 468,000 hits here.
  • "Ooh, what a horrible day" would certainly make sense, but there's no "b" articulation visible at 2:19 here or 2:22 here. My guess is that it's "Ooh, want a holiday", a reference to the earlier line "Well you need a blue sky holiday".
What do you think?
--Mikemorr 03:22, June 5, 2011 (UTC)
Hm, okay with both. Holiday because of the video, the not really from the video but as it's on his webpage it's okay with me. - Chris 04:04, June 5, 2011 (UTC)

Just stopping by to say thanks!

I talked to you in the chat earlier about some formatting/naming issues I was having. I've since added quite a few pages that I hope are helpful to people, just wanted to say thanks for the friendly help!

SOTD nom

Hey, Chris, I was moving some of my preferred date noms from the old nomination page to the Special page, but like an idiot, I forgot to save one of the token numbers. If possible, can you get that number to me, so I can double check if I added the preferred date? The song is "Soul Sacrifice" by Santana. Thanks. --Cubs Fan2007 (Talk to me) 20:20, June 30, 2011 (UTC)

Yep, the preferred date was set to August 16. Smile - Chris 20:45, June 30, 2011 (UTC)

Ghost pages

It's not just deletions that are lagging. Try creating a redirect as opposed to redirecting an existing page – I always get the "This page needs content" placeholder, and the redirect only appears after waiting between half a minute and several minutes. Might be the job queue, but it's been like that for many weeks now… — 6×9 (Talk) 08:05, July 11, 2011 (UTC)

No, the job queue is fine since exactly 2 weeks ago:
I was confused because the GPP Bot was ready and deletions by it worked absolutely fine, whereas those Ghost pages stayed blue links and intact redirects (except for when I purged the pages). But "several minutes"... Look at Special:PrefixIndex, but seriosly... it obviously was still blue 10 hours after the deletion, otherwise I wouldn't have tried to "fix" that. What the hell is going on here?! Shocked - Chris 09:40, July 11, 2011 (UTC)
Fun fact: if you "hide" from the system that the page you just created is a redirect (e.g. by doing something with SUBST:PAGENAME) it is treated like a regular page creation and appears at once. — 6×9 (Talk) 17:07, July 11, 2011 (UTC)

Placeholder deletion?

Apologies, but I'm trying to understand the Delete placeholder to make way for a protected title.-edit, specifically for three songs that I recently noticed bear this edit: Glee Cast:Funny Girl, Glee Cast:It's A Man's Man's Man's World, and Glee Cast:Hello, I Love You.

This may have something to do with the choice in using the artist Glee or Glee Cast for singles/albums released through the TV series. In keeping with the system I saw before I started editing and adding new songs, I went with Glee Cast, but the Gracenote page for Glee (vs. Glee Cast) is actually longer?

Any explanation or guidance would be helpful. I'm just not too clear on what a "placeholder" is. Should all the Glee Cast songs instead be changed to Glee? - sssh 14:46, July 12, 2011 (UTC)

Hi sssh, the answers to your questions are here: User:LWChris/GPP. But I'll also explain it here. Here we go:
"Placeholders" are songpages that were created by User:GracenoteBot ("GNB"). Gracenote couldn't get the license for us to display the lyrics, so the song's titles were on the so-called "takedown list". We are not allowed to display these songs completely. If the pages exist beforehand, they are "taken down", i. e. the lyrics are cropped and the page is protected to prevent re-adding them. But if the pages did not exist so far, GNB created them as placeholder and protected the pages. That is how it was until now.
Unfortunately, it turned out that the Gracenote protection database is poorly maintained to put it mildly. Most page titles are "wrong", i. e. they contain typos, common misspellings and some are absolutely incomprehensible. The most obvious consequence amongst others were vast amounts of links in the "Other songs" sections. Finally, we (all admins + me) decided to switch from creating empty pages to really protect the pages from creation. The "GPP" transformed all old placeholders into protected titles. As a user you cannot create these pages. So basically nothing has changed for you, just that some former blue links to placeholders are now redlinks (which IMO fits better anyway for those content-empty placeholders). - Chris 17:10, July 12, 2011 (UTC)
Hm, I think I've got the whole un-licensed songs deal down. Still, these pages did have content on them before, so I'm still confused about the blue/red/why-their-content-was-deleted-altogether-and-not-cropped bit.
But so, if a song does exist as a Gracenote page, it doesn't mean that the site has been licensed to display the lyrics? i.e. Gracenote:Glee:Funny Girl, Gracenote:Glee:It's A Man's, Man's Man's World, and Gracenote:Glee:Hello, I Love You sssh 22:55, July 12, 2011 (UTC)
Quote by sssh: "these pages did have content on them before" - that content was nothing but the standard stuff, a Song template with the artist, lyrics-tags, the gracenote takedown template, and a SongFooter with song and fLetter. As admin, I can see the deleted revisions, too. The last content before my bot deleted the page was:

gracenote takedown

|song = Funny Girl
|fLetter = F
|language =
|youtube =
|goear =
|asin =
|iTunes =
Quote by sssh: "But so, if a song does exist as a Gracenote page, it doesn't mean that the site has been licensed to display the lyrics? i.e. Gracenote:Glee:Funny Girl, Gracenote:Glee:It's A Man's, Man's Man's World, and Gracenote:Glee:Hello, I Love You" - Now that is interesting, because you're right that having the Gracenote namespace page allows us to have the content namespace page, too. According to the takedown situation, the current status is: we are allowed to have Glee:Funny Girl, but not Glee Cast:Funny Girl. That is weird, but not our fault. For us, "Glee" is an alias of the correct name "Glee Cast". For Gracenote it's obviously different. I don't know what to do in that case, but I'll ask Sean if there's anything we can to get back Glee Cast:Funny Girl. Depending on whether Gracenote:Glee:Funny Girl was added after Gracenote:Glee Cast:Funny Girl was taken down or the other way round we know if we are allowed to have those two songs or not. - Chris 22:03, July 13, 2011 (UTC)

SOTD Nomination Page Notes

Using my admin powers to try to edit a nomination with long text, and not all the existing text appears in the edit box -- check this out with nominations #338 or #340, for example. Will it work if I paste the text into the box, and not get truncated when I save it?

Also, in the nomination edit box, would it be possible to indicate in some manner which is the day and which is the month? Maybe switch the month names to abbreviations (Jan, Feb, Mar, and so on)? Obviously it's easy to see once you pull down both, since one goes up to 31 and one only goes up to 12, but it's a little bit user-unfriendly -- especially to Americans, who are expecting the month to be first. (Yeah, I know, Americans suck. We also use gallons and Fahrenheit.) Trainman 19:06, July 14, 2011 (UTC)

Quote by Trainman: "not all the existing text appears in the edit box" - doesn't it get scrollbars? It usually should...
Quote by Trainman: "Will it work if I paste the text into the box, and not get truncated when I save it?" - yes, there's no upper limit (only the one by the HTTP, but that's far beyond the current length ranges at SOTD).
Quote by Trainman: "Maybe switch the month names to abbreviations" - That's possible but will make my code a tiny bit more complex. On the other hand this shouldn't make a big difference meanwhile Lol. I won't change the order though. As German editor I have to cope with the strange order in english MediaWiki, and as English editors you have to cope with the German order :D
Oh, and it's not so much about gallons and Fahrenheit... Far worse is inches/feet/miles compared to the metric system. I can immediately tell you that 3 kilometers are 3.000 meters are 300.000 centimeters. Now how many feet/inches are 3 miles? Tongue
Something about the state "modified": You don't have to (or maybe even shouldn't?) mark nominations you changed "modified". That state is intended to be a heads-up for you rather than being information for the user.
Nominations you ranked "suitable" become ranked "modified" as soon as they are edited by the user again. That informs you that the nomination could now contain typos again and stuff, or it could even be about a completely different song, that was already SOTD. Basically that mode means you have to recheck the whole nomination again, but it can be helpful if you already picked some you want to accept, as the modifications should be very small usually rather than a nomination of a new song. But you never know... - Chris 22:24, July 15, 2011 (UTC)
Thanks, now that we talked in chat, I think I got the hang of SOTD things a little better.
3 miles is 15,840 feet (which I did in my head -- 5280x3 works out as 20x3 less than 5300x3), but I'm not sure why you'd need to convert 3 miles to feet in the first place. What I end up needing to convert most often is not gallons, but all of their cousins, since they're found in recipes: quarts, pints, cups, fluid ounces, teaspoons, tablespoons.
If I ever get godlike powers, one of the things I'll do is magically convert everything in the U.S. to the metric system, since it seems like that's the only way it's ever going to happen. Trainman 01:04, July 16, 2011 (UTC)
Hehe, I wrote a letter to Mr. Obama about that some months ago, but I didn't get a response by now. As comparison: when I wrote to the German government department of finances with a question regarding our national debt, I got a response within a week. Obviously the American government is not really open minded towards visitors from different countries. I wonder whether I got a response if I lived in the US (as a voter)?
It's weird, since you all learn the metric system in school for physics anyway, it shouldn't be too difficult to switch the system in the young people's mind. The only difficulty might be converting everything official like the car's speedometers, road signs etc.
And you convert kilometers to meters to convert from km/h to m/s in physics, or for buildings for example. A car's lengths is also given in millimeters instead of meters for technical sketches. My car is 3999 millimeters long, which is 3.999 meters Smile. - Chris 23:39, July 16, 2011 (UTC)

Check my work?

Hi Chris,

You helped me with an issue several months ago.

I have created pages for an artist, album and songs for the first time. The artist page is Would you like to look it over and tell me if I've done it well enough, and how it might be improved?

Dale Nichols (Dgndenver)

Hi Dale,
The majority of the page is looking good. Here is what needs to be corrected (I won't do that so you can "learn"):
Artist page
  1. For Twitter, only use the profile name (everything behind the last shlash)
  2. The Wikipedia parameter does not need underscores (not an error, it just looks better)
  3. You forgot the "Album Art" template name below the album headline
  4. Midnight in Harlem and Bound for Glory need to be moved and corrected to their LW:PN conform titles.
  5. The youtube parameter is intended to link to the youtube profile if present, not to a video
Album page
  1. The album page is missing
Song pages
  1. You need to specify "English" as language in the SongFooter
  2. You could already add Revelator (2011) as album in the Song template
Everything else is looking fine to me. Tip: most errors are already visible on the pages themselves:
  • the artist page has "Invalid Twitter Link" as category
  • the Youtube link does not work
  • the AlbumArt template code is visible as
  • Bound for Glory displays a red banner with a hint about the page naming policy
  • All songpages display a yellow banner with a hint about the undefined language
But all in all good work already! Keep it up! - Chris 08:34, September 4, 2011 (UTC)
Um yeah, that's the downside of great error tracking systems... someone is there to fix issues within hours Lol - Chris 18:31, September 4, 2011 (UTC)

Naming policy question

Hi there. I've got a question about article titles that LyricWiki:Page Names didn't answer for me.

Dog Fashion Disco did two different versions of a song called Scores for Porn. They aren't very different, but the second version reordered some of the verses and added a bridge section. Anyway only one version, the latter, is on this wiki, it's at Dog Fashion Disco:Scores For Porn. I want to add the original version to this site too, but I don't know at what location the pages should be. McJeff (talk this way)/(stalk this way) 16:01, September 4, 2011 (UTC)

So if the "Original version" is missing, how is the other version (the one we have) called? - Chris 17:23, September 4, 2011 (UTC)

How do I get rid of the gray box?/Wie krieg ich den grauen Kasten weg?

Hi Chris, Ignor'ant told me that I could always turn to you. Just created my own signature (inspired by those of Sscout and others). But now the date appears in a gray box. Do you happen to know what went wrong?

Weisst du, was ich vielleicht falsch gemacht habe? LG     Lichtweber      talk    contribs       18:29, September 4, 2011 (UTC)

Deine 4 Tilden sollten eigentlich das einsetzen, was in deinen Einstellungen steht. Aber es wäre vielleicht sinnvoll, das in den Einstellungen als "" zu schreiben und nicht als "" falls das da steht. - Chris 18:44, September 6, 2011 (UTC)
Because of technical details it was easier to keep that convo German. Summary in English:
Lichtweber had a problem with his signature causing the date to be formatted like code in a pre tag.
I told him that the reason were the space characters in front of the last lines of his signature and asked him to use a less space-consumptive.
Because in spite of his effords to join all lines of his sig into one its sourcecode is still quite lengthy, so I asked him to transclude it.

SOTD question

Hi Chris, I'd like to know if a song with partial lyrics can be a SOTD (this song), it's lyrics are nowhere to be found, I can't even buy the album to check the booklet, cause it's album is an internet-only album with no booklet. The artist's official page got no information on it's lyrics and LW is the only lyrics website with that song (apart from this one, that just copied the lyrics from here, partial template included!). I did my best to transcribe it, but my listening skills are far from perfect Sad.

Kleyguerth 04:25, September 19, 2011 (UTC)

well, it's difficult to give anything like a hard rule for that. SOTD would ideally be Gold songs only, but that's utopian. So my question would be: is there any special reason why this of all songs should be SOTD? Regarding the transscribing, I tried it myself, and I think it's only one word that's missing now. Please re-check if you think my edits are okay so far. It's also hard for me to find anything new, because 1) I'm German and 2) I'd lie if I said this is the kind of music I enjoy listening to. Shy Furthermore I found the lyrics on various pages (4 to 6), but they all copied each other (with the dots), hard to tell who was the first to have it. In most cases the typos were also copied so that it's obviously "copy and pwaste" (how we computer scientist say if you replicate an error by copying it Wink).
Well, if that one word was filled I could definitely say "go on", but this way I'd appreciate to know the reason beforehand (needn't be the same you'll fill in). - Chris 18:09, September 19, 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for helping with the transcribing!
Well, about the reason this should be SOTD... Well, it's quite a long story... I created my account sometime ago, made some contributions, then forgot about LW. In that time, I discovered Axxis, they became my favourite artist since then and their lyrics are pretty hard to find, that made me want to come back to LW and contribute with their page. So it's like Axxis made me join LW for real and that song is my favourite one. I could pick another Axxis' song and nominate with that reason, I wanted Moonlight as SOTD, but I don't want to "break the rules" of SOTD. - Kleyguerth 01:51, September 20, 2011 (UTC)
As I said, there isn't any written rule for that, and all in all - as it's only one missing word anymore - nominating is okay. Maybe we're lucky and somebody who knows/understands the word will find the song through SOTD and add it? I'd say, go ahead and nominate it. - Chris 15:16, September 20, 2011 (UTC)
Alright, I'm gonna nominate it later, thanks! - Kleyguerth 23:55, September 20, 2011 (UTC)

Humm, it's hard to tell what changed in the last billion months since you were away. Let's see, maybe you don't know this and maybe that. Do you know these: Smile Wink Grin Tongue ..? Finally, and this might become reality maybe... - Chris 19:55, September 22, 2011 (UTC)

Don't Understand Something...

Hi! I just wanted to know about this Wikify thing. How do you do it? Just wanted to know. Thanks, TTYL -ÂØˇÂ⁄⁄ 01:34, September 26, 2011 (UTC)

  1. You have a specific album you want to add to LyricWiki, which is not created so far. Usually you'd have to edit the artist page and type all the wikisytax:
    ==Album Name (Year==

    # Track Name
    # Track Name
  2. Because that is quite a lot of work, although the only thing that varies from track to track is the actual track name, you rather go to Special:Wikify
  3. You fill in the information that stays the same for the whole album at the top just once, that's the advantage opposed to writing all the code etc.
  4. You have to fill in the artist name, the album name and the album year. If you know that you will be able to upload a cover sooner or later, you check the "Show album cover" option, too.
  5. Next, you fill in some kind of a roughly formatted "discography", i. e. a tracklist where each line goes for one track on the album you want to add. There are different types of formats you can enter the information in, like a numbered list, a plaintext list, Wikipedia and so on. They all have in common, that it is not wikisyntax so far.
  6. After you filled in everything and selected the regarding format of the list you put into the textarea, click on the "Wikify" button at the bottom of the page. It'll give you a (usually) well-formatted wiki-code which is in most cases almost paste-ready for the artist page.
  7. As the album pages are created almost ready except for a few parameters and the tracklist, Special:Wikify does not output the album page, too. However you can copy the tracklist only (without the headline and the Album Art and clear template), then save the artist page, and use the redlink-headline to add the album. There you enter the copied tracklist, fill in the parameters if you are already able to, and save the page.
Hope that helps, Chris 21:50, September 28, 2011 (UTC)

Explain to me, please...

Chris please explain to me how someone can rank an album Bronze, when every single song was incomplete & red linked? I just entered the lyrics for every song except one, but before there were none. Here. Thank you. BeatriceBlue 18:44, October 13, 2011 (UTC)

Chris? BeatriceBlue 05:27, October 17, 2011 (UTC)
Well, if Chris doesn't want to talk to you anymore… ;-)
It's only required for Silver/Gold albums that all songs be ranked Ag/Au as well. Ssmodk should have filled the "allsongs" parameter with Black instead of Green, but that's an easy mistake to make. (Maybe they meant to fill in the lyrics later and just forgot or didn't get round to it?) — 6×9 (Talk) 07:16, October 17, 2011 (UTC)
Sorry, I was busy studying so I didn't come here every day to check. When I saw the "New message" baloon yesterday I saw Sean's section and was in a hurry to fix the SOTD noms, and then forgot to check for other messages. I think the time I'm here is similar to the amount I edit, and my edit amount looks like this:
                / \
               / \
              / \ ___
    /\ _ / \____/ \ /\
___/ \__/ \/ \____/ \____/\______
| |
0 now

Sorry Sad - Chris 17:44, October 17, 2011 (UTC)

Some user just nominated a song for Sunday called Apples To Apples & wanted me to poke you to take a look at the nominations (since it's such a short time before then). Thanks!
-Sean Colombo 01:12, October 15, 2011 (UTC)

Yes, but I will prefer another nomination for October 16th, because I can't make a good reason out of the nomination reason that was given. I don't understand what the user is trying to tell me, and obviously didn't care too much about ortography. I'm starting to become pickier. Can you please edit the trac code to use a limit of 120 characters (that is line 637 of the body and lines 37 and 122 of the i18n). I really have to find some time to finally make that fast-written quick&dirty code ready... - Chris 09:25, October 15, 2011 (UTC)

Hey Chris, I tried to change into in the preferences as u suggested. But no matter what I do it always switches back. I tried both to check and uncheck the "Signatur als Wikitext behandeln (ohne automatische Verlinkung)" button. Any ideas what I can do here? thx  · Lichtweber talk service

Weird, the correct setting would be and "Signatur als Wikitext behandeln (ohne automatische Verlinkung)" checked. That'd put "~~~~" into "". What do you mean by "it switches back"? Do you save the preferences but the checkbox is always unchecked again? If that's the case that'd mean the saving of preferences is broken. - Chris 21:37, October 24, 2011 (UTC)
Switch back means: I fill in and save by hitting the save button. But when I reload the page is back the field, no matter wether I checked the lower checkbox or not. And, in fact, when I try to sign with ~~~~ the complete source code appears. Any ideas?  · Lichtweber talk service
IIRC templates can't be used as signatures, so the change you make is probably ignored. What you can try (and what, again IIRC, is what other people do) is to create another page, say User:Lichtweber/Sig2 with as the only content, and use in your preferences (leaving the checkbox checked). — 6×9 (Talk) 22:01, October 26, 2011 (UTC)

Stevie Wonder:Superstition

Hi Chris, wanted to alert you that your last edit wonked up the first bullet in the Awards section. Please fix? Thanks!!

6 fixed this, thanks for the heads-up. I think my Auto-Fix script somehow confused the SongFooter and the Grammy template - although I'm pretty sure I implemented a catch, it looks like the code does not filter clearly enough. I will look into it. Thanks again, Chris 16:37, November 22, 2011 (UTC)

Meine SOTD-Nominierung

Hallo Chris,

Reporting a page for deletion

I can't seem to find a way to report pages so I am posting this on some admins pages (because all I could find was a list of admins). While I was adding a band and its lyrics I used English capitalization and then I realized that I had to actually capitalize each word. So I ended up having to pages. I want to delete the one that doesn't follow wikia's capitalization rules, which would be

Thanks in advance

Hey dude, sorry about the confusion with the Alex Day stuff. I know minor artists are welcome here, but that didn't seem like material that was real. Sorry about that. :( XxTimberlakexx 03:16, December 11, 2011 (UTC)

Yes, with that formatting it looked like someone just typed some text, but now with the proper layout and less "SCREAMING" you can see the structure of verse and chorus, the rhymes and so on. So no problem, that's why I put a YouTube video on the page, so everybody can listen to as "proof" it that this songs actually exists. Wink - Chris 03:21, December 11, 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, exactly. Thanks man :) XxTimberlakexx 03:30, December 11, 2011 (UTC)
