Language Missing Tag

Could we please have a tag (I know that is not the correct term) similar the Accent for songs that lack language information? Something along these lines but shorter would be nice.

This song does not have language information completed in the Song Footer. Perhaps it has not been edited by a human or, if it has been edited by a human, either the human did not recognize the language or did not have the time to fill in the information.
If you recognize the language of this song and have the time, please edit this page, place the language where indicated in the Song Footer (at the bottom of the page) and delete this notice from the top of the page.
This will get casual users involved in cleaning up the mess, roughly 380,000 songs down from the highest I saw of more than 580,000, of SNLI. If it is put in the template that is added to each new song it would help reduce the growth rate of SNLI greatly. No song that is bot generated will have language information so all new songs will go in the that category by default. If the notice were there the first human who looked at the song might be able to putit in its proper home.

Please, pretty please?

Here's a first draft: {{NoLang}}. Feel free to change the message text (or the icon). In theory, it should place the song in the SNLI category, but I probably messed that part up, so it won't. (Damn, I forgot they're already in there anyway... gaaah!) I trimmed down the message quite a bit, so people are more likely to actually read it :-) 6x9 (Talk) 19:41, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
Much better! New people, those who do not know how much the site is bot driven, may wonder why the language is not already there since the song is obviouly in Lithuanian, for example. Most people who cannot remember when they learned something think that something should be obvious to everyone.
How quickly can this be implemented?

The main problem would be the new songs added continuously. If a bot were to slog through SNLI once and slap this template on every song page, that wouldn't be enough. Ideally, it would check periodically for any pages added to SNLI since the last check and only process those, but I don't know whether that is possible. The alternative would be to go through the entire category monthly or so and only add the template to those that don't have it already. OR, we could revive Language/Unknown and have the bot adding the template also moving the pages to that category, leaving ONLY new songs in SNLI. Any bot owner who would like to comment on which of the above is feasible? -- 6x9 (Talk) 01:31, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
I think a one time pass and then monthly upkeep would be ideal (the least total amount of work), but since Teknomunk's Janitor is kaput, there's no maintenance bot running (just individuals automating tasks). Therefore, perhaps "Unknown" is the best option, realistically. --Åqüã†ìкí ƒΔΣ 01:41, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
Good idea about the tag Jim and nice template 6x9. Just to clarify this 6x9, are you proposing that all song pages that go into SNLI should have their language changed to 'Unknown' (which will put them in Category:Language/Unknown) and at the same time get awarded with a banner? Well if this is agreed I'd certainly be willing to do what I could to assist. However with regards to the bot side of things, I frustratingly don't have a stable enough connection to volunteer to undertake such mammoth tasks :(  ♫Яєdxx Actions Words 03:15, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
Yes, from what Aquatiki wrote, this seems to be the best solution. However, I also agree with what Jim wrote below, that it's probably best to wait until SNLI is down to a more manageable level (whatever that level will turn out to be). There's no need to rush things, especially now that we have this shiny new page to nag remind us that there's something we wanted to do. -- 6x9 (Talk) 03:26, 8 November 2008 (UTC)

Is R2-D2 no longer functioning? It seems that that bot has appeared on every song I have checked or edited. However, I just checked and that bot has not done anything since 10 February 2007. I do not know when the last new song was created by a bot.

Before re-creating "Unknown" could you wait until SNLI gets down to a reasonable size but still have a bot put the tag, however it is worded, on every song that needs it? At the rate Sierra Echo's bot is going, with a little help from its friends, there could be fewer than 100,000 songs, perhaps fewer than 20,000 songs, there at the end of the year. However many there are when those of us who are working feverishly on the project have done as much as possible, the number of remaining songs will help determine whether a deleted, temporary category needs to be revived.

Does that make sense?

It can be frustrating, waiting for things to advance so slowly here! There are so many side projects going (like mine, eliminating Category:Review Me via bot). I think I will create LyricWiki:Long Term Projects so can keep track of it all! --Åqüã†ìкí ƒΔΣ 02:47, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
