  • The above template is what will eventually be on every artist's talk page under the page ranking scheme. Information relating to the other templates which are also to be included on the artist talk page are detailed elsewhere.
  • There are three responses when completing the information: "unknown", "not applicable" and "done".
  • The "other" parameter refers to the songs in the Other Songs list, which should all be allocated before marked off as done.
  • See the Help page for information concerning the "related" parameter.

Possible options

Are "done" and "unknown" the only options? And should the way to complete this template be provided on the template's page? What if artist hasn't got pedlr link? (most won't have)  ♫Яєdxx Actions Words 12:53, 27 July 2008 (EDT)

"not applicable" is the other big option. --Aquatiki - T - E 13:12, 27 July 2008 (EDT)

Further questions

K thank you. and sorry I hadn't noticed the aforementioned options were built into the actual template (even better than an explanation on the template

  1. The itunes bit in this template, should it be there, as there is no link that I know of for this?
  2. Also: | allsongs = (currently Black) & | every album = (curently Black) (it would be impossible to manage every song on an artist's page)
  3. And what does "Artist status" mean? Does this mean the artist template completed as fully as possible? (If so I would suggest we incorporate the word template, as it took me a while to figure that's what you might be referring to and so it could confuse others too)
  4. I've also added the Cert template, as instructed, but it doesn't seem appropriate Talk:Stereophonics

 ♫Яєdxx Actions Words 13:20, 27 July 2008 (EDT)

  1. I added the iTunes link to artist. I need to add an explanation, I know.
  2. You don't have to be the one managing all the songs on an artist page (though I do for Death Cab For Cutie), it just would be nice to have all songs being looked after.
  3. "Artist status" is a bad word choice. It means Artist = something . Maybe "artist parameter" would be better.
  4. The {{{2}}}nd parameter is required for {{Cert}}. Maybe I should change that. It should just be an explanation of how you verified the info and the date ~~~~~ --Aquatiki - T - E 16:04, 27 July 2008 (EDT)
Artist footer?  ♫Яєdxx Actions Words 16:59, 27 July 2008 (EDT)
All the templates we use at the bottom of an artist's page? After the manner of {{SongFooter}}? --Aquatiki - T - E 19:48, 27 July 2008 (EDT)
Yes, I believe that's what a lot call that template..that is, if I am understanding correctly "artist status"? Aah, sorry, after looking at Modest Mouse song page, I think I get it. (I was overcomplicating You simply mean that the artist's name is actually filled in on artist template? Same as album name is filled in on album header and song name is filled in in song footer, yes? K, well the only problem I envisage with this is that a lot of artist pages have old templates (i.e. just the basic fletter), which doesn't include option to complete artist name. (I always update these when I come across them, (like I do with the old style {{clear}}). Also, re itunes link for artist, like I say that isn't an option on artist page, so far as I'm aware. I even tried adding |itunes = with itunes id for artist to Stereophonics page but nothing appeared on page (no link, etc). Sorry to be a pain, but I need to understand all this so I know I'm doing it right and also in case users ask questions.  ♫Яєdxx Actions Words 20:34, 27 July 2008 (EDT)
Yeah, I'm just trying to make sure people know what all the fields they need are. Most templates don't have a "musicbrainz" field, so this let's people know to do it.
Just like on other pages, it's iTunes, not itunes. Fixed it for you. I'm glad you're asking questions: it helps me refine my templates! --Aquatiki - T - E 21:21, 27 July 2008 (EDT)
Phew! Was hoping you saw it that way! I'm sorry but I couldn't correct the iTunes link which is showing on page as PAGENAME Template:ArtistFooter  ♫Яєdxx Actions Words 21:53, 27 July 2008 (EDT)
Fixed iTunes.--Aquatiki - T - E 22:22, 27 July 2008 (EDT)

Just a reminder..

I have removed the inappropriate {{Cert}} from Stereophonics talk page, but the wording telling users to put this on the artist talk page is still on the Bronze Artist template, i.e. "If you can verify the artist's information, give yourself credit with the {{Cert}} template." I think it's a great idea, it's just that the template relates specifically to lyrics.
Also, date format. I insert date as shown above, dd-mm-yy. However many will want to insert mm-dd-yy. Ok for today's date of course, but when we get 01-08-2008, is that 1st of August or 8th of January? For this reason, I think users should be encouraged to insert month as a word.  ♫Яєdxx Actions Words 10:42, 28 July 2008 (EDT)

So you think I should remove the {{Cert}} stuff from {{Album Rank}} and {{Artist Rank}}? As for the date what if you all used ~~~~~? --Aquatiki - T - E 18:58, 28 July 2008 (EDT)
I think it's the pipe thingy, the bit after the | defining it as 'Bronze'. Green is OK, so is Violet, but Silver has same {{Cert}} problem as Bronze. With regards to date yes, great idea!  ♫Яєdxx Actions Words 19:42, 28 July 2008 (EDT)
Documentation on Cert now. Artist Rank and Album rank changed in Silver and Bronze. --Aquatiki - T - E 19:51, 28 July 2008 (EDT)
Excellent..!!  ♫Яєdxx Actions Words 20:18, 28 July 2008 (EDT)

Managing songs

You don't have to be the one managing all the songs on an artist page (though I do
for Death Cab For Cutie)

Sorry, I overlooked this and I'd be grateful if you would clarify this for me as I'm not sure I understand. Are you saying, by using DCfC as an example, that if you agree to take active responsibility for watching artist page, you are also taking responsibility for managing all the album and song pages too? And if the answer to that is yes, my next question would be exactly what do we mean by 'manage'?  ♫Яєdxx Actions Words 11:08, 28 July 2008 (EDT)

No, what I'm saying is that someone is {{Watcher}}ing every song. You can't say an artist's page is done when one or more of their songs might be covered in spam. The way to tell this is if every song is at least Bronze: someone has signed up to watch every one of their songs. It just so happens that I am a DCfC freak and am indeed watching every song. --Aquatiki - T - E 19:01, 28 July 2008 (EDT)
K so just to be clear on this, you can put yourself down as a watcher of the artist's page, without signing up to watch any of the associated pages, i.e. album and song pages?  ♫Яєdxx Actions Words 19:53, 28 July 2008 (EDT)
Right. All the associated pages being watched or not will determine whether "all songs" and "every album" is Green (or Black) or Bronze. {{Watcher}} only refers to the page it's on. --Aquatiki - T - E 20:11, 28 July 2008 (EDT)
K. Thank you. I'm amazed at how much work you've put into setting this all up Aqua, I truly am. And the speed with which you've achieved this. I love the way you've designed everything, the colours you've chosen and indeed, the graphics. First class stuff. All of it. I only hope it's a success. I think we've got to expect a few problems in the initial stages, but with the thought you've already put into this, I'm sure these are going to be minimal. Talking of which...are we good to go now or what? One final thing, I would like to suggest that you replace the redundant "Experimental Area" in the Community Portal on the main page (which I personally find very irritating) with an announcement about the scheme so all users come to know and can therefore participate in it. In view of the work you've put into this, I would also suggest you take some credit for setting up the scheme!!  ♫Яєdxx Actions Words 21:16, 28 July 2008 (EDT)

A Bug!

It seems the everyalbum parameter is ignored... Instead the colour of allsongs is used for both stars. -- 6 times 9 14:35, 1 September 2008 (EDT)

Yes, thank you for noticing. It should have been fixed. --Mischko Talkicon EsperanzaIcon 14:50, 1 September 2008 (EDT)
Wow... that was quick! Yes, it works now. (As if I had ever doubted it...) -- 6 times 9 16:02, 1 September 2008 (EDT)

Multiple Genres

How would one list multiple genres for an artist? Are they seperated by commas, semicolons, colons, slashes, or pipes? Battlewithin - Contribs|Talk 16:54, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

For artist pages you can use the {{Genres}} template (see its documentation). You can also find this info on the help page *hint, hint* :-) — 6x9 (Talk) 17:15, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
You know, I've been on the help page tons... and my biggest complaint is how hard it is to search the help pages. I started to get annoyed with it, so decided to just ask :) Battlewithin - Contribs|Talk 18:57, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
The problem with help pages is that they are usually written by people who don't need to use them… So any suggestions to improve them (or their searchability) are always welcome. — 6x9 (Talk) 19:14, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
Wish I could help there, but I'm not 'that' literate in webpage coding. I think organization of the info might have something to do with it... If I ever have any specific ideas, etc, I'll hit up your talk page ;) Battlewithin - Contribs|Talk 21:00, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
I believe what 6x9 meant was what do you think we need to change to make the information more accessible? Since I do much of the updating, I would be glad to consider any suggestions you might make. It's people like you we write them for after all. Ok I'll kick the ball I'm quite good at kicking balls ;) Kiefer suggested a while back splitting some of the information into "basic" and "advanced"...what do you think of that?
Something that occurred to me however is that you placed your post on this page, which is to do with Page Ranking. Is that because you were looking for help with Page Ranking? Page Ranking information is not included in the main help pages.  ♫Яєdxx Actions Words 16:10, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

Green rank typo

Typo for green rank:

"enter artist data such a Hometown or Related Artists."

"such a Hometown"

Someone fix this?
