October 31, 2012: Happy Hallowe'en by Die So Fluid

  • Nominated by Cork.
In my opinion, nothing says Halloween more than some dark music and a little bit of cheese. The band's self directed and self produced video may leave some to be desired, but there is no denying that the members of Die So Fluid must have had a blast filming this. I hope you, too, have as much fun on this spooky night- be you trick or treating, costume partying or even just ignoring the doorbell. So kick back, tune into a horror movie, indulge your sweet tooth and have a Happy Hallowe'en!

October 29, 2012: Sun King by The Beatles

I'm sitting here in Metro Vancouver, Canada, where summer is well nigh finished...the winter rains are on their way. But - Oh! - look! The SUN just came out and saved my lousy day!

October 28, 2012: Off The Grid by Abney Park

I nominated this song because this is an amazing but little known band, and I think this song captures an attitude I think many people need to take in this consumerist world.

October 27, 2012: Oscar Acceptance Speech by Oceansize

Amazing song! This is easily one of my favorites on Self Preserved While the Bodies Float Up. A terrible shame they broke up shortly after this album was released...

October 26, 2012: Another Day by Dream Theater

Saxophone. Spines were chilled. Especially at the end of the song. It's just really good.

October 25, 2012: Glósóli by Sigur Rós

The lyrics, although they can represent a great deal of things, remind me of my stepfather who passed away two days ago from cancer (13th September).

October 24, 2012: You'll Be Mine by The Pierces

October 23, 2012: Destroyer Of The Universe by Amon Amarth

This song should become song of the day because 1) it's excellent and awesome, and 2) you need to listen to these guys for a long time to understand what they're singing.

October 21, 2012: (Wish I Could Fly Like) Superman by The Kinks

With such a groovy beat, it was a great way for The Kinks to end the 1970s and usher in the '80s. It's not as famous as some of the Kinks' earlier hits, but it's still got that signature Ray Davies spunk.

October 20, 2012: Time To Pretend by MGMT

Time to Pretend is an electronic song that never gets old. You got to love the psychedelic danceability, plus the synths are awesome.

October 18, 2012: Where Did You Sleep Last Night? by Nirvana

It's the last true grunge song. Kurt Cobain committed suicide shortly after the Unplugged in New York recording, and this was the last song on the set list

October 17, 2012: I'm Happy Just To Dance With You by The Beatles

It's a sweet song by the late George Harrison who was said to be the 'quiet Beatle'. The Beatles are my favorite band and I think every one of their songs should be a number one hit.

October 14, 2012: I Call It Art by The Kills

A rather untypical song of The Kills - somewhat spooky, in a minor key, but still so incredibly intense with lyrics highly reduced but still full of meaning. Call it hate, call it love - I call it art...

October 13, 2012: One More Try by The Rolling Stones

This song has very uplifting lyrics, with a good life message. I listen to it whenever I am feeling low.

I nominated this song because the production is incredible. And I think the lyrical content is quite intelligent and displays an advanced level of wordplay.

October 11, 2012: Dragonfly by Dead Meadow

This song is beautiful in its musical composition, psychedelic tones, and dream-like quality. Though the vocals are nearly incomprehensible, they still add a high harmony to the main riff.

October 10, 2012: Wooly Bully by Sam The Sham & The Pharaohs

Although the lyrics can be incomprehensible, the song became a worldwide hit in 1965. It became the first American single to sell a million copies during the British invasion, and stayed on the Billboard Hot 100 for eighteen weeks. It's a great throwback to the pop music explosion of the '60s.

October 07, 2012: Ashamed by Muse

Ashamed is a great song with a lot of emotion. Not a whole lot of people know about it because it's one of Muse's older songs, but it's really good.

October 05, 2012: Walk On by U2

October 04, 2012: Just Like Heaven by The Cure

I nominated this song because it reminds me of someone I once cared about and was stupid enough to let go. Never let go of anyone who says they'll love you if you'll just be who you are. I was too young and immature to understand, but I know now. Better luck to everyone else.

October 03, 2012: The Longbottom Legacy by Ministry Of Magic

The group Ministry of Magic are wonderful, amazing, ordinary people who few people have heard of because they write WRock (Wizarding Rock) music instead of music that a lot of people listen to. But Longbottom Legacy is, whilst a Harry Potter themed song, a song about a boy trying to be better than people think of him and fighting predjudice. It's an uplifting, brilliant song with great lyrics and vocals.

October 02, 2012: Tainted Love by Soft Cell

Amazing song right here. Soft Cell, a duo consisting of Marc Almond and David Ball, took an older song by Gloria Jones, tweaked it up, and the result was an outstanding eerie new wave cover of a completely different genre song. Marc Almond's vocals just give you the chills once you listen through this song.

October 01, 2012: Sunglasses At Night by Corey Hart

Another '80s favorite of mine, Corey Hart really went creative with this song. Many people can't decipher what exact genre it is. It incorporates styles of new wave with prominent synth, but even includes an electric guitar solo! An amazing song at best, and one of my favorite Corey Hart songs.
