May 28, 2014: Skyfall by Adele

This song was nominated for the first anniversary of the highest grossing film of the James Bond franchise. This is the first James Bond theme to peak in the top 10 Billboard charts since Madonna's, Die Another Day. Still today, it is considered to be my favorite Adele song of all time.

May 14, 2014: Superstar by Andrew Lloyd Webber & Tim Rice

The title track of Jesus Christ Superstar was a surprising top twenty hit, and its success was what enabled Webber and Rice to record the concept album. The album itself was a smash hit, leading to a run of the show on Broadway, and eventually to a run on the West End and an Oscar-nominated film adaptation. Even forty years later, the popish track holds up and I think will remain a classic of the musical theater genre.

May 11, 2014: Lainaan Enkä Palauta by DJ Kridlokk

DJ Kridlokk's album UG-Solo from 2011 revolutionized Finnish hip hop, popularizing the dark and slow tones of Memphis sound in Finland. Possibly the most well-known song from the album, "Lainaan enkä palauta" surprisingly enough received some radio airplay, and is at times regarded as a summer hit of sorts. In the song's lyrics, Kridlokk and fellow rapper Eevil Stöö attribute "borrowing, but not returning" to bad memory - whether this is an excuse or not is left to the listener.

This song has overtaken Live To Tell as my favorite Madonna song because not only it hit #1 in the 1985 Billboard Hot 100, but it's also in the key of E. And it was obvious that there's no instrumental break between the second verse and the final chorus.

May 03, 2014: Sweetest Angel by The Kelly Family

Many years ago I was deeply depressed, even thinking of suicide. This song helped me to see the light in my life again. It's therefore quite ironic that the singer of this song, Barby Kelly, disappeared from the spotlights herself. Rumour has it that she's schizophrenic. But whatever the reason may be why she almost never appears on concerts of The Kelly Family again, she does not deserve to be forgotten. Therefore I'd like to nominate this song as "Song of the Day" for Barby's birthday, the 28th of April.
