The Song of the Day (SOTD) is a fun way to get exposed to some new music, or maybe learn more about a song you already know.

The way it works is this:

Anyone can nominate a song on the Song of the Day special page. Once approved, the nominations are then moved to the queue. One nomination is then selected each day from the list of songs in the queue and displayed on the LyricWiki main page as the Song of the Day. The nifty badge on the right is also added to the song's page.

The successful nominee isn't forgotten about either. Providing they are registered (and don't use an alias when submitting their nomination) they receive a notification that their song has won Song of the Day.

After the day is over, the entry is archived. The entry is also displayed on this page until the middle of the following month.

So now you know how it works, why not head on over to the Song of the Day special page and nominate a song today!

It is listed as instrumental. However there are people signing something. I would love to know what it is. My heart has had a link to this since the first time I heard it. It moves me...

It has a beautiful, haunting melody and a beautiful passage before the refrain.

March 31, 2019: Promised Land by Jack The Lad

I nominate this song because it is much under-rated, but sums up the experience of any new arrival in the US. A story of today. Written by a guy who arrived from the north-east of England to work for a while and felt out of place.

March 30, 2019: Thousand Years Of Oppression by Amon Amarth

Because this song is a good song about how Christianity pretty much forced their religion on the Pagans but in this song, they're like enough is enough and they fight back

March 28, 2019: My Uncle Is A Raft by Gene Simmons

The lyrics are pure art and honestly it makes me tear up. I relate to this song in many ways and I would like to share it with everyone. This song may sound silly and childish on the outside, but if you pay attention it tells a story of support and friendship.

March 26, 2019: Sloth by The Brothers Four

Was a very young girl when my mother bought this album in early '60s. My young brain remembered a string of words about a sloth & that the group was The Brothers Four. I'm now 62 & with the help of an "Alexa" I asked her if there was a Sloth song by The Brothers Four. She said no. I asked her several times with song title variations & she finally played "Sloth." I hadn't heard that song in 50 plus years. It all came back to my mind & I cried like I had met a long-lost relative or friend. What a great, unique song & what a great day.

March 25, 2019: War! by Zach Callison

This rap is incredible. It's fast, awesome, and tells a nice story. Zach had a ex named Juanita, who abused him for money and said that, after they broke up, she would write a diss track on him. The track never came out, and this song is a sort of "Here's mine, Where's yours?" kinda thing.

March 24, 2019: Монстры В Твоей Голове by Дима Билан

I nominated this song, because it is so personal and real. Its freaky and thrills. It shows the situation of the author who had a hard time when he wrote it.

March 23, 2019: The Night by Will Cookson

It speaks of the hope despite the darkness we might experience in our day to day lives

March 22, 2019: Chacarron Macarron by El Chombo

Too often we get caught up in the meaning of the lyrics, while failing to notice the musical context of those lyrics. This song has a bunch of nonsense lyrics, but they actually do have meaning and function within the song. The way that each of these "words" is pronounced signifies a certain meaning. The chorus is whimsical, silly, and slurred, while other parts of the song have more edge to them and provide rhythm.

It's interesting to see that although the lyrics don't have any dictionary meaning, people who listen to the song largely experience the vocals the same way, which says something about how we perceive music. If you take away the literal meanings of the words, it still conveys the same music idea. So then, how important are lyrics really?

March 14, 2019: Exist by Avenged Sevenfold

I nominated this song because it's a wonderful masterpiece of a song. The song lyrically is a musical interpretation of the big bang. It's a metaphorical journey through time and space, with a special appearance by Neil deGrasse Tyson. This song is just a wonderful candidate for song of the day all together.

March 13, 2019: Sky by The Human League

Over forty years after forming as an experimental electronic act, the essential trio of Oakey, Catherall, and Sulley still impress with subtle brilliance and a matchless songcraft. The silky and quite haunting "Sky" blends the raw genius of the original group with a mature pop sensibility which draws in new fans yet keeps the diehard Leaguers very satisfied.

If you ever thought the movie being filmed in the "Don't You Want Me" video looked interesting, here is your soundtrack. We might never know who the titular character is—a spy, perhaps, or maybe a one-off romance which dragged the singer from the depths of depression. But whoever she was, the mysterious Sky, and this song about her, are impossible to forget.
